classified cinema films since it was set up in 1912
What makes a 15?

No one under the age of fifth teen is allowed to see a
film rated ‘15’ at the cinema plus to buy or rent a DVD
with the same classification of ’15’
 At this age rating no themes are prohibited but aslong
as they are age appropriate for 15 years old.

An 15 rated film can include the following;
strong violence
frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***').
portrayals of sexual activity
strong verbal references to sex
sexual nudity
brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to
sexual violence
discriminatory language or behaviour
drug taking
What makes an 18?
No under the age of 18 is allowed to see a 18 rated
film at cinema or even to buy/rent an 18 rated DVD.
All 18 rated works are not suitable for children.

An 18 rated film can include the following;

very strong violence
frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***') and/or very
strong language (e.g. ‘c***’)
strong portrayals of sexual activity
scenes of sexual violence
strong horror
strong blood and gore
real sex (in some circumstances)
discriminatory language and behaviour
