  Lauri Dickinson, Rocklin,Ca I grew up in Folsom, California in the 1960s and 70’s when it was mostly fields of wild flowers and rock piles. But it is the wild flowers I still vision in my mind. I was inspired by nature as far back as I can remember. My desire to create art was always pushed aside by the more pressing matters of being a full time working mother, wife and homemaker. But, ten years ago as my youngest daughter left home I began my serious art journey. I have always loved to draw, and figurative drawing especially. As time went on I began experimenting with watercolor and pastels. My love of nature always compels me to paint flowers and landscape. But my recent work of Yoga Art and love of yoga and meditation brings me back to the passion of figurative drawing. .. this time using acrylic paint. As a self-taught artist I have studied art through Sierra College, attended workshops and in depth practice using art books and videos that teach. My love of color and the affects of bold lights and darks continue to emerge as I find my own style in the art world. Shadows can define a painting just as much as the object being painted I am a member and exhibit coordinator for the Rocklin Fine Arts and a past member of the Sacrament Fine Arts Association. I have had solo exhibits at the Department of Rehabilitation on Capitol Mall, Sierra Roasting Company Coffee Shop, the Snowflake Show, JDs Café, Rocklin Florist and various arts, crafts and juried membership art shows. I am the mother of two very talented daughters who inspire me with their skills and abilities. Both of my daughters and my husband share my love of art, and this past year Will, my supportive husband has also started painting! My oldest daughter is a successful artist on Etsy and creates art for Trader Joes. I am retired from a 20 year career with the State Department of Rehabilitation. My husband and I like to travel in our trailer, play with our grandchildren, and most recently I’ve learned to roller blade. I also love music and play the piano along with a group of ladies (including my mother) who all are very talented and inspiring. Displaying my art in public places takes bravery --for it means being vulnerable. I call my artwork: “HarmonyArt” because I always paint the things that I love and which make me feel good. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about sharing beauty. Lastly,I am proud to presentmy newly published book of Yoga Art. “Life is Art, Paint your Dreams”.
