  Definition.  BIOS (BasicInput-Output System)- is an electronic set of instructions that a Personal Computer (PC) uses to successfully start up.

  Physical Location.  Itis located on a chip on the motherboard inside of a computer and is designed to be protected from disk failure.  If you need to reload BIOS, you can press red button on your motherboard or you can pull out motherboard’s battery.

  How to enter. Basically it depends on your PC.  Common keys: Del; F1; F2; F10; Esc; Ctrl+Alt+Esc.

  Main Function.  Oneof the main functions of the BIOS is to give instructions for the Power-On Self Test (POST). This self test ensures that the computer has all of the necessary parts and functionality needed to successfully start itself, such as use of memory and a keyboard and other components.

  Besides.  BIOS loadshard drive’s and removable drive’s drivers, so they can successfully start. Then it loads the main parts of operating system such as: MBR or GPT and disks into memory, so operating system can continue load itself.  MBR (master boot record) and GPT (GUID Partition Table) – code and data, which are needed for further load of operating system and located in first physical sectors on hard drive or another data storage device.  MBR supports hard drives whose size is less than 2.2 terabytes. GPT supports hard drives whose size is more than 2.2 terabytes.

  Main Settings.  Basedon the name, in this chapter there are the main BIOS settings to the processor, the amount of installed memory, including the time and date, disk drive application parameters and general system information (BIOS version, processor model, installed memory size)

  Advanced Settings.  Thissection has the largest number of options for configuring components and PCs and includes several important subsections. Here are the parameters responsible for CPU operation, RAM, video adapter, Chipset, PCI data bus and Plug and Play on-board peripherals (Onboard Device Configuration ), USB ports (USB Configuration) and other hardware.

  Power Settings.  Hereare the parameters responsible for power supply and power saving of PC, monitoring the operating temperatures and voltages of its main components, as well as controlling the speed of rotation of the fans.

  Boot Settings.  Alreadyfrom the title it is clear that this section is responsible for configuring the boot parameters of the computer. It here are settings for determining the sequence of polling the boot devices and the inclusion of the "Num Lock" key are placed. In security you can change PC’s password.
