LSC BASKETBALL
Angelo State leads the men’s standings after cruising through the first half of Lone Star Conference play with a
perfect 7-0 mark and 20.9 scoring margin. The Rams have won a program-record 14 straight games.
West Texas A&M tops the women’s standings with a 7-1 LSC mark, with Midwestern State just behind them
at 7-2.
This week’s schedule includes eight LSC contests for the men, and nine on the women’s side.
The LSC men have a 105-55 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s
teams are currently 13-6 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 8-7 against the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference.
The LSC women are 88-77 overall. The women’s squads are currently 13-17 combined against the Heartland,
and 6-3 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
The LSC champion will be the regular season winner determined by league games, while the postseason
tournament winner is designated as LSC Tournament Champion and earns the conference’s automatic
qualification. The top eight teams in the final conference standings qualify for the postseason tournament set
for March 4-7 in Allen, Texas.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
MEN’S OFFENSIVE
Mo Lee, Tarleton State University, SR, Guard, Bronx, NY, Faith Baptist Academy
Lee put together a remarkable week for the No. 12 Tarleton State Texans, leading the Texans to back-to-back
wins including a 77-73 road win over No. 25 Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday night. He posted back-to-back
20-point performances starting with a 21-point, nine-rebound effort against McMurry Wednesday night. The
senior guard followed up by posting a career-high 24 points against the Lions with seven rebounds and three
assists. The senior drilled four free throws in the final minutes of Saturday’s win over A&M-C to seal the win
for Tarleton. For the week, Lee averaged 22.5 points per game with a team-high 16 total rebounds and eight
assists. He was also 16-24 from the floor for a .667 shooting percentage and was 7-10 from downtown.
MEN’S DEFENSIVE
Antjuan Ball, West Texas A&M University, SR, Guard, Collirene, Ala., Central Hayneville HS
Ball was huge on the defensive end for the Buffs in two wins last week over Langston at home and Eastern
New Mexico on the road. He tallied double-doubles in each contest with 11 boards in each game. Of those 22
rebounds, 18 were on the defensive end. In the win over ENMU, Ball also tallied four blocks and a steal. On
the week, Ball helped WT hold opponents to just .381 shooting from the floor and 17.5 turnovers per game.
WOMEN’S OFFENSIVE
Lisa Hampton, Midwestern State University, SR, Guard, Kennedale, Texas, Nolan Catholic HS
Hampton poured in a career-high 21 points leading Midwestern State to a 79-70 win over Cameron Saturday
at Aggie Gymnasium to snap CU’s five-game winning streak. The senior from Kennedale also matched a career-
high banging in five 3-pointers while going 6-of-8 from the field including 5-of-7 from the arc with a perfect
4-for-4 performance at the free throw line. She connected on three consecutive triples seven minutes into the
first half to ignite a 10-0 run allowing MSU to claim momentum.
WOMEN’S DEFENSIVE
Ashlee Johnson, Texas A&M University - Commerce, SR, Guard, Carson, Calif., Long Beach Poly HS
In two wins against high-level opponents (Texas Woman’s and Tarleton State) this week, Johnson contributed
in several phases to help propel the Lions. The fourth-most prolific player in the LSC at generating steals was
above her average on the week, pawing away seven over the course of two games for an average of 3.5 per
game. In the win against Tarleton State last Saturday, the senior guard matched her career high in rebounds
at eight, while flirting with a triple double by adding 11 points and seven assists. Johnson even came through
with a block, only the third one of her lengthy career. On the week, she helped A&M-C hold opponents to just
.341 shooting from the floor.
MEN’S OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Derrell Gibbs, Midwestern State University, splashed in a career-high 21 points to lead Midwestern State
to an 88-77 win over Cameron Saturday night at Aggie Gymnasium. The senior guard from Wichita Falls also
knocked down a career-best five 3-pointers while going 8-of-10 from the field and 5-of-7 from the arc as he
scored in double figures for the fifth time this season.Gibbs is averaging 9.2 points while shooting 53.2 percent
from the field and 43.5 percent from the arc (10-of-23) since moving to the wing position five games ago.
Chris Wyms, Eastern New Mexico University, poured in 19 points and dished out four assists in the
Greyhound’s wild game against West Texas A&M. He connected on three treys during a run late in the first half,
which turned a six-point deficit into a one-point halftime lead, on a buzzer-beating shot.
Chris Jones, Angelo State University, continued leading the Rams to victories with his play on both sides of
the court and finished last week averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game in wins over No.
25 Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas A&M-Kingsville. Jones started the week with four assists and 10 points in
the win over the Lions and then matched his season-best with 23 points against the Javelinas. Jones, who is
leading the conference with 105 assists and 55 steals this season, is now averaging 15.3 points and 5.3 assists

through the first 20 games of the season. Jones has scored 23 points three times this season and has scored
in double-digits in 18 of 20 games. He has also recorded four or more assists in 16 of 20 games. Jones finished
last week shooting 60.0 percent from the field on his 25 shot attempts and is now shooting 62.1 percent for the
season.
Antjuan Ball, West Texas A&M University, led the way for the Buffs offensively in two wins this week over
Langston and Eastern New Mexico, averaging 16 points and 11.0 rebounds, grabbing back-to-back double-
doubles. He tallied 19 points with 11 boards with six dunks in a 92-71 win over Langston at home. Then on
Saturday in Portales, Ball put up 13 points with 11 rebounds again to go along with 4 blocks and a steal. During
the week, he went .600 from the field and .500 from beyond the arc.
Mo Lee, Tarleton State University, put together a remarkable week for the No. 12 Tarleton State Texans,
leading the Texans to back-to-back wins including a 77-73 road win over No. 25 Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday

Duan Wright, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, posted career-highs against the league’s hottest team on
Saturday, finishing with nine rebounds and four blocks... the junior also added one steal and 16 points in the
loss to the No. 8/7 Rams.
WOMEN’S OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jazzmine Robinson, Cameron University, came away with a game high 22 points and shot 50 percent from
the field against Midwestern State. Along with her eighth game scoring 20 points or more, she had a her
seventh double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Robinson added a pair of assists and steals against the
Mustangs and has averaged a league high 18.2 point per game this season.
Gabby Scott, Texas A&M University - Commerce, had a huge week for a Lions team that’s now won seven of
its last nine games. Against Tarleton State, Scott set a career-high with 22 points, and doubled her career-high
in three pointers in a game by going off for six. In Denton, after the Lions thrilling comeback effort to force
overtime, Scott played a big part in icing the game by scoring six of her 16 points in the overtime period. Over
the week, the guard out of Vancleave has delivered a multi-dimensional performance, averaging three assists
and two steals per game, while going a perfect 6 for 6 from the line, and efficiently shooting from the field with
52 percent FG (13 of 25) and 37.5 percent from deep (6 of 16). Scott has now scored double-digits in her last
five consecutive games, setting and re-setting her season-high in scoring three times over that span, emerging
as the Lions’ chief offensive threat.
Diamalises Rivera, Angelo State University, led the Belles to their first Lone Star Conference win of the
season with a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The junior hit 70-percent
from the field and 80-percent from the free throw line. She grabbed nine rebounds, eight on the defensive end,
and made one steal. It was her fourth game to score in double figures this season.
Emily Spector, Texas Woman’s University, averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 blocks in
the two games last week. She shot 52.4 percent from the floor and 81.8 percent from the free-throw line.
Spector scored a career-high 24 points and blocked a career-high five shots against Texas A&M-Commerce on
Wednesday.
Sarah Stinnett, Eastern New Mexico University, poured in 15 points against sixth-ranked West Texas A&M
along with three assists and four rebounds. Two of her baskets gave the Zias leads over the Lady Buffs, early in
the first half.
Sasha Watson, West Texas A&M University, went 5 of 6 from the field with two triples and two free throws
along with a game-high eight assists in the Lady Buffs’ 102-51 victory at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.
Watson had just three points in the first half and responded with 11 in the second. Watson had her third-
straight game of six or more assists and fifth of the season. Her two triples were a career-high in a game as
she entered 3 of 12 from beyond the arc on the season. WT had a season-high 15 triples in the game. It also
marked her sixth game of leading the team in scoring this season which is second on the team.
Raven McGrath, Tarleton State University, was stellar for Tarleton State last week as the junior guard led
the TexAnns to two wins in three games over the course of five days. McGrath recorded the first 20-point
game of her career Saturday afternoon against Texas A&M-Commerce with 22 points on 7-14 shooting from
the floor, 4-10 shooting from downtown and a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line. She followed up her career
performance Saturday with 12 points and six rebounds to lead the TexAnns past Texas Woman’s in an overtime
win in Stephenville. Of her 12 points, McGrath scored seven of them in the overtime period to guide Tarleton
into the win column. For the week, McGrath scored 39 points in three games for an average of 13.0 points per
game to go along with 16 total rebounds, 10 assists and four steals. She was also a perfect 9-9 at the free throw
line for the week.
Chontiquah White, West Texas A&M University, and the Lady Buffs blitzed Eastern New Mexico as White went
4 of 10 from the field with a game-high seven rebounds with one block and four offensive rebounds. White and
the Lady Buffs held ENMU to just 51 points and just .328 shooting. White surpassed former teammate Devin
Griffin and Von Tucker (1984-88) for seventh all-time in scoring with 1,456 career points. WT dominated the
glass in the game with 46 rebounds out-rebounding ENMU by 23.
Erin Maxwell, Texas Woman’s University, averaged 9.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in the two
games last week. She recorded six points, six rebounds and two blocks against Texas A&M-Commerce on
Wednesday and then had 12 points, 9 rebounds and a career-high 6 blocks at Tarleton State on Sunday. In the
nine conference game Maxwell has played this season she has averaged 11.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and blocked
27 shots.
Ikpeaku Iwobi, Tarleton State University, led Tarleton State’s defensive effort in three games last week with
a team-best 23 total rebounds for an average of 7.7 boards per game. The sophomore forward grabbed 14
rebounds on the defensive end and added a steal while anchoring the Tarleton defense that held opponents to

notched her eighth double-double of the season
Saturday to lead Midwestern State to a 79-70 win
over Cameron snapping the Aggies’ five-game
winning streak. The senior from Angleton scored 19
points and pulled down 11 rebounds while blocking
a shot and recording a steal as MSU rolled to its third
consecutive victory.

Angelo State
The Rams extended their program-record winning
streak to 14 games with wins over No. 25 Texas A&M-
Commerce and Texas A&M-Kingsville last week in a
pair of conference games. The victory over the Lions
makes the Rams 3-0 against ranked opponents this
season and also took their home record to 13-0 this
season. ASU is 24-2 inside the Junell Center over the
past two seasons and will host West Texas A&M on
Wednesday before traveling to play Eastern New
Mexico on Saturday.
Cameron
Cameron managed to get within six points late but
they would fall to number-23 Midwestern State 88-
77 at the Aggie Gym on Saturday night. The loss
for CU was their second in a row and their fourth
out their last five to fall to 10-9 overall and 2-5 in
Lone Star Conference action. KeDorian Sullivan
led the Aggies with 16 points, but the CU offense
was paced by Desmond Henry who had a double-
double with 12 points and 10 assists; Jamaal Brantley
was the other CU player in double figures with 15
points. Midwestern’s three point attack guided them
through the game with 65 percent shooting from
downtown and 13 made treys. Cameron countered
with eight; DJ Jackson, Cameron Lee, and Sullivan all
had a pair. The Aggies trailed in the shooting battle
with MSU going 49.1 percent from the field and CU at
45.3 percent, MSU took the rebounding battle by two
with 30 overall boards. The Aggies next face Texas
A&M-Commerce on Feb. 4 in Lawton with a 7:30 p.m.
tipoff.
Eastern New Mexico
After a week off, the Hounds dropped a 76-73
heartbreaker to West Texas A&M. The contest was
a wild affair which saw 19 lead changes and nine tie
scores. John Gilliam poured in 22 points to reach the
20-point mark for the second straight contest and
the third time in the last four contests. The Buffaloes
managed to close strong and snap Eastern’s first
three-game win streak in the season since a stretch
from 2003-04. It also was just the second time in
eight games that the Hounds lost a game this season
decided by eight points or less. The Hounds will play
at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday and host
Angelo State on Saturday.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State claimed its seventh straight win
on the road rolling to an 88-77 win over Cameron
Saturday night in Lawton... The Mustangs have won
two straight and 13 of the last 14 since dropping
two consecutive games to Missouri Southern and St.
Mary’s (Texas) on Nov. 29 and 30 in San Antonio...
Thirteen of MSU’s 17 wins this season have been by
double figures... The Mustangs continue to rank in the
Top 10 in the NCAA Division II in numerous statistical
categories including fourth in field goal percentage
defense (38.2), fourth in 3-point field goal defense
(28.6), fifth in rebound margin (+10.4), sixth in total
rebounds (840.0), seventh in total blocks (108.0) and
10th in offensive rebounds per game (15.0)... Senior

is averaging 9.2 points while shooting 53.2 percent

ago... Senior guard Bretson McNeal knocked down a
season-high six triples to finish with a game-high 26
points Saturday at Cameron. It was the most he has
had in a regulation game this season and one shy of a
season-high of 27 set in a double overtime win over
Lynn (Fla.) on Dec. 15... McNeal has knocked down
54.5 percent (18-of-33) of his shots from beyond
arc over his five games and boasts a 48.3-percent
success from behind the 3-point line this season...
McNeal has scored 20-or-more in each of his last two
games after going for 24 points last week at Texas
A&M-Kingsville... Senior forward Xavier Blackburn
scored in double figures for the 12th time this season
going for 12 points and six rebounds Saturday against
Cameron... Blackburn connected on 8-of-9 from the
charity stripe after coming into the game hitting on
58.9 percent of his free throw for the season... Senior
guard Kevin Wagner scored six points and dished out
seven assists while making his fifth consecutive start
at the point guard position... Wagner is averaging 5.4
points and dishing out 4.6 assists in 25.6 minutes per
game since he was reinserted as the starter at point
guard five games ago...
Tarleton State
No. 12 Tarleton State won both games last week to
improve to 18-2, including a 77-73 road victory over
No. 25 Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday. It was the
first meeting between the Texans and Lions as ranked
opponents in school history. Tarleton will now head
to Wichita Falls Wednesday night for a 7:30 p.m. tilt
against Midwestern State at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

West Texas A&M
The West Texas A&M men’s basketball team rolled
to two big wins last week to improve its record to
13-8 and 3-4 in LSC play, retaking sole possession
of fifth place in the conference. The Buffs defeated
Langston 92-71 at home in its non-conference
finale on Tuesday before grabbing a 76-73 win over
Eastern New Mexico on the road in Portales, N.M. on
Saturday night. Senior Antjuan Ball led the way both
offensively and defensively with back-to-back double-
doubles. WT will return to action on Wednesday for a
rematch against No. 8 Angelo State, this time on the
road in San Angelo. Tipoff from the Junnell Center is
scheduled for 8 p.m.

The Angelo State women’s basketball team won its
first Lone Star Conference game of the season with
a 58-45 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville ... Diamalises
Rivera scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed a
team-high nine rebounds ... The Belles tied a season
high with 42 points in the second half ... ASU limited
TAMUK to a 27.6 field goal percentage for the game
... ASU will host West Texas A&M this Wednesday at
the Junell Center at 6 p.m.
Cameron
Cameron’s five game winning streak came to an end
after falling 79-70 to Midwestern State in front of over
1,400 fans at the Aggie Gym on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss to Mustangs, Aggies dropped to 9-8
overall and 6-2 in league play. The Aggies also lost
their top spot in the LSC standings and is a game back
of first with eight regular season contests remaining.
Jazzmine Robinson had a game high 22 points and
added 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double
of the season; Charron Montgomery came away
with 14 and Brandi Leal added 12. Both teams shot
44 percent from the field and MSU edged Cameron
by one in rebounding with 36; the difference at the
end of the night was at the charity stripe with the
Aggies going 40.9 percent (9-22) and MSU shooting
75 percent (21-28). Cameron will remain at home to
face Texas A&M-Commerce on Feb. 4 for a 5:30 p.m.
tipoff.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University women’s
basketball team managed to take the lead on sixth-
ranked West Texas A&M a few times on Saturday
night. The final time came on Shayla Williams bucket
after a 9-2 run. The Lady Buffs took over from there
and pulled away for a 102-51 win. Sarah Stinnett
poured in 15 points, while Tori Tucker chipped in
10 points. This week, the Zias will visit Texas A&M-
Kingsville, before hosting Angelo State.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State improved to a 16-3 on the season
and to 7-2 in Lone Star Conference play with a 79-70

Carter notched her eighth double-double of the
season going for 19 points and 11 rebounds Saturday

Tarleton State
Tarleton State had three games last week, including
two in 22 hours over the weekend. The TexAnns won
two of the three, including a thrilling overtime victory
over Texas Woman’s 82-76 Sunday. The TexAnns will
return to action Wednesday night in Wichita Falls
with a 5:30 p.m. affair with Midwestern State at D.L.
Ligon Coliseum.

Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville lost to 58-45 at home to Angelo
State on Saturday. The Javelinas posted their largest
lead at halftime (8) and during a game (11) for the
season. The Blue and Gold led for 27:04 seconds
during the game but were held to 21 points while
allowing 42 in the second half. Both Lauren Jay and
Ashley Viera scored 10 points to pace the team. Viera
dished out five assists while Ope Ibrahim and Jay
grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. TAMUK is one
of three winless teams in Division II with the others
being Salem International (0-22) and San Francisco
State (0-18). This week the Javelinas host Eastern
New Mexico on Wednesday. Saturday begins a three-
game road swing that starts at nationally-ranked
West Texas A&M.
Texas Woman’s
The TWU basketball team is 12-9 on the season and
5-5 in the Lone Star Conference after suffering two
overtime losses. Sophomore Emily Spector scored a
career-high 24 points and blocked a career-high five
shots against Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday
while sophomore Kenesha Saygo posted a career-high
28 points against Tarleton State on Sunday. Saygo led
the team with 19.5 ppg and 4.0 apg in the two games
while sophomore Erin Maxwell had a team-best 7.5
rpg and 4.0 blocks per game. Spector finished with
17.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.0 apg and 2.5 bpg. On the season
Spector is the team leaders with 11.7 points per game
while Saygo is second with 11.3 ppg.
West Texas A&M
The No. 6/7 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs ran their
winning streak to a LSC-best seven games with a 102-
51 victory at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday night...
The win gave head coach Mark Kellogg a 48-5 record
in his second year at WT...The 51-point margin was
the largest of the season for WT and the third game
of over 100 points this season marking the most
since the 1996-97 season...It also was the second
conference game of 100 or more points which was the
first time that had happened since 2003-04...Senior
Chontiquah White moved into seventh all-time in
scoring with 13 points in the game as she surpassed
both former teammate Devin Griffin and Von Tucker
(1984-88) as White now has 1,456 career points...WT
drained a season-high 15 triples in the game and had
its seventh game of shooting over 50 percent (third in
a row) as the team shot 59.3 percent...WT doubled up
ENMU in points (102-51) and in rebounds (46-23)...
Six Lady Buffs were in double figures as sophomore
Sasha Watson had eight assists in the game on 5 of 6
shooting for 14 points with a career-high two triples...
WT scored a season-high 55 points in the second
half..WT held ENMU to just 32.8 percent shooting
(entered at .400) and the 52 points was the fourth-
fewest ENMU had scored this season...The 102 points
marked the second time WT has reached the century
mark on ENMU as WT won 107-35 on Feb. 2, 1989 in
Canyon.
