This document analyzes black spots (locations with frequent accidents) on National Highway 55 in Angul district, Odisha, India. The authors collected accident data from 2002-2011 and divided the highway into 4 stretches. Stretch 4 had the highest accident rate, followed by stretch 1, 2, and 3. For each stretch, the authors identified black spots, noted contributing factors like poor visibility or shoulders, and recommended countermeasures such as clearing obstructions, improving junctions, and adding speed bumps. The conclusions were that stretches 4 and 1 needed the most improvement through roadside clearance, shoulder maintenance, lighting, and junction upgrades to help reduce accidents.
