• Bottle gourd
• Soil and Climate:
• Medium to high land with sufficient moisture
is good for its cultivation. After getting down
of flood water within September to October, it
can be cultivated. Loam to clay loam.
• Cultivar: Any local, Diana etc.
• Seed rate:
• Hip- 350-400gm/ha
• ploybag- 200-250 gm/ha
• Sowing time;
• Early-June; Late- July
• Polybag sowing: Alternate of seedbed
• Mixture of 50% decomposed cowdung or vermicompost and soil is
to be filled in polybag. Prepare bag before 7 days of sowing.
• Poly bag size: Width- 7.5cm, Height- 12-15cm
• Keep 2 holes at the bottom of the bag.
• Sow seeds at the depth of 3-4cm then apply light irrigation with
cane. Cover bags with straw. Seeds will germinate within 5-7 days.
Clear straws when you see germinated seedlings. Remember to
keep bag moistened by applying water.
• Then transfer seedling after 10-12 days to the hip. Cut bags and
place 2-3 seedlings in every hips. Apply light irrigation on soil.
• Soil purification:
• Furadan or Bioderma for safe cultivation
• Fertilization:
• OF- at bed- 5 tons, in hip- 30kg/vermi-10 kg
• Urea-
• 1st Top dressed- after 20-25 days
• 2nd top dressed- 40-45 days
• TSP-Basal-120kg
• MP-135kg, use K, if necessary.
• Weeding, Fertilization should be done when
necessary.
Life span:
• 120-140 days. After 60-70 days of germination
tender fruits can be harvested. If you see the
good vegetative growth, cut twigs with 5
leaves as leafy vegetable then fruit will appear
soon.

• Aphids-sucking: Malathion 57 EC at an interval of 15 days.
• Fly- Lay eggs under bottle gourd fruit skin. Spray in evening
for not prohibiting pollinations.

• Mildews-powdery – Thiovit 2gm/1 li, or Tilt- 0.5ml/1 li
• and downy- Maquprax – see instructions.
