2.1.5 OPENER'S REBIDS AFTER A "REGULAR POSITIVE NT" RESPONSE 2.1.6 OPENER'S REBID AFTER AN "UNUSUAL POSITIVE" RESPONSE Notrump raises are natural 1NT, 2NT or 3NT 1C Notrump Raises Simple bid in a suit shows 5-card or longer suit 1NT, 2NT or 3NT 1C Simple Suit Bid Simple bid in clubs is Stayman 1NT, 2NT or 3NT 1C Simple Bid in Clubs Rebid in NT shows no good trump suit is apparent and the singleton is well stopped 2H, 2S, 3C or 3D 1C Notrumps Name a good trump suit if possible 2H, 2S, 3C or 3D 1C Simple Suit Bid
2.2 OPENER BIDS 1NT Use normal partnership bidding methods keeping in mind the lower HCP spread of opener’s hand. 4-Way Transfers, Stayman and Lebensohl over interference may be applied.     Opener shows a balanced hand with 13 to 15 HCP without a good 5-card major.
Use normal partnership bidding methods. Can use 2/1 bidding here. Can use Bergen raises, splinters, etc. Normal Conventional Bids 1D, 1H or 1S With a MAXIMUM OPENING BID (14 to 15 HCP): Make a jump raise of responder’s suit. Bidding a new 4-card suit by reversing is OK. Jump in NT (balanced hand). Jump rebid your major suit if 6 or more cards. Simple 1/1 Bid 1D, 1H or 1S Max Hand Rebids With a MINIMUM OPENING BID (11 to 13 HCP): Make a single raise of responder’s suit . Bid a new 4-card suit without reversing. Bid NT as cheaply as possible. Rebid your major suit as cheaply as possible. Simple 1/1 Bid 1D, 1H or 1S Min Hand Rebids
Response to 2C openings Pass With no game in sight and no l ong suit of your own, pass. 2H or 2S Long suit, opener is expected to pass. Signoff. 2NT Balanced hand with mediocre club support Not forcing, invitational. If opener rebids clubs as cheaply as possible, pass.
Response to 2C openings 3C Good club support. Not forcing, invitational 3H or 3S Long major suit. Not forcing, invitational. If opener rebids clubs as cheaply as possible, pass. 3NT, 4H, If you know where game is, bid it directly. 4S, 5C or 5D A signoff. Forcing Resp 2D is a FORCING RESPONSE used to Of 2D inquire about opener’s hand
Response to 2D forcing response after 2C opening With a MINIMUM OPENING BID (11 to 13 HCP): 2H = 4-card heart suit. 2S = 4-card spade suit. 2NT = no 4-card major, relatively balanced. 3C = no 4-card major, 6 or more clubs, unbalanced.
Response to 2D forcing response after 2C opening With a MAXIMUM OPENING BID (14 to 15 HCP): 3H = 4-card heart suit. 3S = 4-card spade suit. 3NT = no 4-card major, relatively balanced. 4C = no 4-card major, 6 or more clubs, unbalanced
Response to 2D opening 3C, 3H or 3S >Opener is to pass. Signoff. 3D Shows 6 or more diamonds, invitational to 3NT 3NT > With a super-solid 6-card diamond suit with 6 sure NT tricks and 11 to 13 HCP bid a NT game. Signoff. 4H, 4S, 5C or 5D> Signoff. Forcing Resp > 2NT is a FORCING RESPONSE Of 2NT used to inquire about opener’s hand . Opener Bids 2D Shows 11 to 15 HCP with 4-4-1-4 or 4-4-0-5 shape and shortness in diamonds and no 5-card major.
The following are opener’s step responses to a 2NT FORCING RESPONSE: 3H = 4-4-1-4 shape and 11 to 13 HCP. 3S = 4-4-1-4 shape and 14 to 15 HCP. 3NT = 4-4-1-4 shape with the singleton Ace or King of diamonds. 4C = 4-4-0-5 shape and 11 to 13 HCP. 4D = 4-4-0-5 shape and 14 to 15 HCP.
2.4 Interference Over 1C Opening Over a double all responses are on. Over an overcall the following responses indicate: Pass = negative response (same as the normal 1D bid) with no good 5-card suit and less than 8 HCP. New suit = “maximum negative” response with a good 5 or more good cards in the suit bid and 5 to 8- HCP. Cue-bid = positive response with 8 or more HCP. Notrump = positive response with the usual 1NT, 2NT or 3NT Precision meanings as if no overcall was made. Promises at least one stopper. Double = penalty (used only if the opponent’s bid is a real suit).
2.5 Precision Asking Bids (Optional Convention 2.5.1 The Trump Asking Bid Used only when 1C was opened and responder bid a REGULAR POSITIVE SUIT response. Used when inquiring about the value of responder’s trump suit. A simple raise of responder’s suit by opener is a Trump Asking bid Responder’s step responses indicate the following: One step = POOR trumps - Jack high or worse. Two steps = FAIR trumps - one of the three top honors. Three steps = GOOD trumps - two of the top three honors. Four steps = EXCELLENT trumps - all three top honors.
Example: [ 1C   Pass   1S   Pass ] ; [ 2S   Pass   3D 2S is the Trump Asking Bid for spades. Responder's 3D shows two of the top three honors. To just raise responder and bypass Trump Asking, the opener rebids 1NT (forcing) then over whatever responder rebids, opener will then rebid responder’s first suit.    Example: [ 1C   Pass   1S   Pass ] ; [ 1NT    Pass   2C    Pass ] : [ 2S 1NT is forcing. 2S shows a simple spade raise, thus bypassing the Trump Asking bid.
2.5.2 The Control Asking Bid Used only when 1C was opened and responder bid a REGULAR POSITIVE SUIT response. Used after a Trump Asking bid has been answered by responder. After responder has answered a Trump Asking Bid, a new suit bid by opener at the cheapest level is a Control Asking bid. Opener wants responder to shows controls in the newly bid suit by step responses. Responder’s step responses indicate the following: One step = POOR controls - no Ace, King, void or singleton. Two steps = GOOD controls - King or singleton. Three steps = EXCELLENT controls - Ace or void.
Example: [ 1C   Pass   1S   Pass ] : [ 2S   Pass   3D   Pass ] : [ 3H   Pass   3NT 2S is the Trump Asking Bid for spades. Responder's 3D shows two of the top three honors. 3H is the Control Asking Bid for hearts. Responder's 3NT shows a King or singleton in hearts.
Mathe Defense Against a Strong 1C Opening A simple defensive bidding scheme. May also be used against strong 2C openers (all bids one-level higher) 2C = clubs 1D = diamonds 1H = hearts 1S = spades Double = both majors 1NT = both minors
