Bromeliads are flowering plants native to tropical Americas. There are over 3170 bromeliad species that can be found from sea level to high altitudes across rainforests and deserts. Approximately half are epiphytic plants that grow on other plants or structures. While only pineapple is a major food crop, bromeliads have many uses including ornamental plants. They propagate through pups, offsets, and seeds. Bromeliads are generally pest-free and easy to cultivate as long as they receive adequate sunlight, temperature, water, humidity and fertilizer depending on the species.
