What is buoyancy ?
•  Buoyancy is an upward
force exerted by a fluid
that opposes the weight of
an immersed object. In a
column of fluid, pressure
increases with depth as a
result of the weight of the
overlying fluid.
Illustrations:
• The bottom of the fish is deeper so there is
more fore pushing up on it – a buoyancy
How to measure the buoyant
force
• Weight of object in air- weight of object in
water =upward buoyant force.
• The buoyant force is equal to the weight of
the displaced water
