Google introduced Cardboard in 2014 as a low-cost virtual reality platform using just a smartphone and cardboard viewer. In 2015, an updated Cardboard v2 was released alongside the Google VR SDK. Daydream was then introduced in 2016 as a higher-end mobile VR platform requiring compatible phones and headsets like the Daydream View. At Google I/O 2017, Google announced standalone Daydream headsets with inside-out tracking and the next Daydream update called Euphrates.
