About Us
The Eye Foundation has proved as one of the best eye specialty hospital in all the major
cities in south India and has a track record of nearly three decades, treating millions of
patients through multi specialty eye hospitals located in the districts of Coimbatore,
Bangalore, Tirupur, Nilgiris and nearby areas. Always at the cutting edge of technology
the institution has to its credit several firsts in the field of Ophthalmology in the country
We were amongst the first to introduce laser eye surgery both in laser refractive surger
as well as laser cataract surgery, which has greatly enhanced the precision of cataract
operations. Our hospitals also comply to the NABH standards with the latest being the
eye care hospital in Bangalore.
Lasik & Smile
Lasik has been performed at “The Eye Foundation” since 1997 and
till date over 40,000 Lasik procedures have been satisfactorily
performed. The Chiron 217 – C Lasik Work Station integrated with
the Hansatome with which we started our Lasik operations in 1997
was the first in India to be installed at that time at our centre.
cornea
Dry eyes can result either from a reduced tear production from the tear glands or excessive
evaporation of the tears from the eye. Inflammation of the eyelids (blepharitis) or
prolonged exposure of the eyes to dry, cool surroundings, is the most common culprit. It is
also seen in the elderly, with history of diabetes, arthritis, and those on certain long term
medications. Most of the patients with “Dry eyes” complain of burning, stinging, itching,
gritty sensation in the eyes, dryness, soreness, heaviness of the lids, light sensitivity and / or
“Tiredness of the Eyes”. Symptoms are often worse at the end of the day and can be
aggravated by certain activities (e.g. reading, watching television, and working on the
computer) and certain surroundings (e.g. airplane cabins, air conditioned rooms, smoky
rooms.) Treatment of dry eye involves multiple modalities including lubricants, tear
stimulation, punctual occlusion etc.
Dry Eye Syndrome
Keratoconus
Keratoconus is a non inflammatory, degenerative disease of the cornea(the
outer layer of the eye). The Hallmark characteristic is the development of a
localized, cone shaped ectasia (bulge); that is accompanied by thinning of the
cornea in the area of the coneThis leads to irregular corneal surface, irregular
cylindrical power and poor quality of visionIt is a progressive condition of the
cornea especially in the younger age
VitreoRetina
Retina is the light sensitive layer that lines the back of the eye. The
retina acts like the film role of a camera. It receives the image
produced by the lens and conveys these signals to the brain. The
retina is actually considered to be a part of the central nervous
system.
Glaucoma Treatment
“Glaucoma” describes a whole group of diseases affecting the eye wherein owing to
an unhealthy pressure within the eye, the intraocular pressure, direct damage to the
optic nerve occurs. The intraocular pressure rises due to an alteration in the drainage
system of the eye, which is either blocked or offers resistance to the normal drainage.
Computer Vision Syndrome
Studies prove that 88% of Computer users in a work place suffer from
computer eyestrain. Prolonged computer use can stress one’s eyes and
impact his or her vision development. If you or your child spend more than
two hours each day in front of a computer screen, you are likely to Experience
Some Degree of Computer Vision Syndrome. CVS Includes
Optical Services at The Eye
Foundation
By the latter half of the 20th century, spectacles were considered part of a person’s
wardrobe. Similar to clothes, eyeglasses needed to be continually updated or a person
could be perceived as old-fashioned. Changing trends are influencing spectacle dispensing
and it has in the current world become a fashion statement. Keeping in trend with this
scenario, we have state of the art optical outlets functioning in all centers, which will cater
to your needs in the most scientific way. Say goodbye to conventional method of making
glasses. Experience this new concept of scientific dispensing and a variety of spectacles
lenses and frames, designed to suit individual needs, profession, looks and budget.

Smile Beyond Lasik
The original treatment methods, PRK and LASEK, manually removed the outer
protective layer (epithelium) of the cornea before the laser surgery. The consequences
often included post-operative pain and very slow recovery of visual acuity. As a
consequence, laser surgery techniques which involved preparing a corneal flap (LASIK
and Femto-LASIK) were then developed. Here, a mechanical cutting tool
(microkeratome) or a femtosecond laser is used to create a thin flap of cornea which is
just 120 micrometers thick. Almost a complete circle (270°) is cut in the upper layers of
the cornea. The flap is then folded back like the cover of a book. Subsequently, the
exposed corneal tissue is then ablated using an excimer laser in a separate stage of
treatment. The greater the level of vision defect, the more tissue needs to be removed.
In the final stage of treatment, the corneal flap is then folded back into its original
position.
Squint & Paediatric Ophthalmology
Pediatric ophthalmologists treat all eye problems in children under the age
of 15 years. As strabismus is one of the common problems in children,
pediatric ophthalmologists are trained to treat strabismus in children and
adults. A child should not be regarded as a small adult. Children have unique
needs and concerns. An incorrect treatment decision or a delayed
treatment could result in a permanent impairment of vision. Children do not
volunteer complaints, and may not give a reliable history. Many a time they
would not cooperate for an exam either. There are special techniques to
assess vision in children. Special hand held instruments are needed to
examine very young children. A child friendly atmosphere is also required in
the examination area to win the confidence of children. A play area and a
feeding room for babies are an integral part of a pediatric ophthalmology
Uvea & Ocular Inflammation
Is Uveitis Curable
If the cause of uveitis is infection it can be completely cured with the appropriate
treatment. If it is due to autoimmune causes, it can be controlled with medications.
However like all autoimmune conditions, uveitis can also be recurrent or chronic. In such
conditions, the treatment may be prolonged.
Optics & Contact Lens
Contact lenses are the ideal alternative to wearing spectacles. They are
made from a variety of sophisticated materials and can correct virtually any
optical defect of the eye. Unlikely spectacles, contact lenses do not distort
the way your eyes look or leave unsightly grooves on the face or fog-up
with sudden temperature changes or break. They do not slide down your
nose and are ideal for sports.
Eye Banking Services
We have more than 2.5 million corneal blind in our country, almost one third of
the world population suffering from corneal blindness. There is a great need for
good quality donor corneas that can help restore sight in millions across the
country.
The Eye Foundation Eye Bank was started in the year 2000 to help eliminate
corneal blindness in the region. It contains all the state of the art facilities
required for eye banking and a trained set of corneal surgeons who can help in
transforming lives of afflicted patients.
Pharmacy
The pharmacy functions during the regular
working hours of the hospital , Drugs are sourced only from approved
suppliers and manufacturers, Adequate storage facilities such as refrigerators
for drugs with long shelf life, Commonly used drugs to meet patients
requirements, Fully computerized transactions, Facilities offered, Fully
computerized transactions
Ocular Prosthesis
Ocular Prosthesis also known as artificial eye is a combination of art and
science which deals with fitting & fabrication of custom ocular prosthesis
working closely with ophthalmic plastic surgeon and ophthalmologist.
Cataract Eye Surgery
The natural crystalline lens of our eye is clear which allows light to be focused clearly
on the retina. With ageing, this lens loses its transparency and gradually becomes
clouded thereby impairing vision.
