CCIC was created in 1995 based on a philosophy of peer accountability. It had a full-time ethics department until 2010 when the Ethics Review Committee was dissolved. Currently, an ethics consultant provides around 2 hours of support per week to CCIC. The Code of Ethics outlines principles of general conduct, development, and partnerships. It establishes standards for governance, integrity, finances, fundraising, management practices, and achieving compliance. Resources are provided to help with ethics guidance, explanations, policies, and self-assessment.
