MH ACROSS CULTURES
● In the Mexican Community it's not okay to talk about mental health... you have to be "crazy" to see a
therapist.
● African American not good
● In the Mexican Catholic Religion, you talk to God or your priest, you pray and then things will "get
better"
● I feel like not enough is said about mental health. I've seen so many people deny themselves help
because of the stigma.
● Men don't like to admit if they have a mental health issue
● : In the Mexican community, people fear taking medication for mental health
● It can be looked down upon in some religious denominations
● yes i would say when youre first gen its a lot more difficult to get help because of the need to be
strong
● In my culture, I feel like that is a topic tat is avoided because there is not much people who
understand it. It can be misunderstood that if you talk about mental health, you are crazy or
something is wrong with you. But in rwlaity talking about it helps you.
● Within our own family, there is mental illness that's been passed on genetically... makes family
members fear who it will affect and who it won't and question if something that is going on is
normal or should we be concerned...
● Everyday Citizen : Not Good, Professional : Great
