Geography -deals with the study of the location,
extent, distribution, frequency and interaction of all
significant elements of the human and physical
environment on the earth’s surface.
-also deals with the study of the description of the
earth into continents, regions, countries, land forms, water
forms, and the relation of these geographic features to the
people’s way of life in the area.

area. The formation of Asian mountain system was said
to be determined by the rubbing and pushing motion of
the vast continental and oceanic plates beneath the
earth’s surface.

Asia’s rivers are the main source of Asian livelihood. They are the
lifeblood of people.
The Yuan River which flows up to 864 km., is one of the
largest rivers in the Hunan Province, southeast of central
china.
Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia.
Huang Ho River is considered as “China’s Pride”.
The Ganges River is known to be Spiritual River.
The Mekong River known as The Core of Mainland
Southeast Asia and sometimes called “Mother of
Water”.
The Cagayan River known to be the Longest and
one of the essential rivers of the Philippines.
The three known rivers of North Asia are Ob’,
the Yenisey (also called Yenisei) and the Lena.
Two of the most important rivers: Tigris and Euphrates
which run through Turkey, Syria and Iraq in southwest
Asia.
Asia’s Lakes
Asian lakes are marvelous sources of water and other resources.
Dead Sea the lowest point on Earth, known as the deepest lake in
the world. Located between Israel and Jordan. It is the saltiest body
of water.
Caspian Sea largest saltwater lake in the world.
Lake Baikal Freshwater is the deepest and clearest lakes in the
world.
Tonle Sap found in Cambodia is known as the largest
freshwater lake in Southeast Asia.
Asian’s Gulf
Asian gulfs had become important shipping channels among nations,
not only in the region but throughout the world.
Gulf of Aqaba and Gulf of Suez, important channels for
both the Israelis and Jordanians.
The gulf of Thailand profitable fishing grounds for the country.
The Gulf of Aden acts as a channel to the Persian Gulf
Oil.
Persian Gulf - Oil world’s busiest shipping lanes.

Factors that Affect Asian Climate
Latitude and Climate
Latitude is the angular distance north and south of the equator
and is measured in degrees on a map or globe.
•The earth is divided into three latitude zones: Tropical
zone lies between 23.5 degrees north and 23.5 degrees south of
the equator and receives abundant heat energy throughout the
year, the sun is directly overhead at noon.
