WHAT IS CLIMATE?
• Climate is the general weather
conditions of a place.
• It is the pattern of variation in
temperature, humidity, atmospheric
pressure, wind, precipitation etc.
• Climate of the world is changing at a
rapid speed.
• Changes in climate can be:
changes in average temperature
changes in rainfall patterns
changes in humidity level of a
place.
CHANGING CLIMATES
HAVE CHANGED LANDSCAPES

ARAVALLI HILL FORESTS, INDIA
CHANGES IN THE
FOLLOWING CAUSE
CLIMATE CHANGE:
CHANGE
• Sun’s output
• Earth’s orbit
• Drifting continents
• Volcanic eruptions
• Greenhouse gases
SOLAR OUTPUT CAUSES
ONLY MINOR CHANGES IN
EARTH’S TEMPERATURES.
•
In the distant past, these made a
big difference in climate over
millions of years by :
changing ice caps at the poles
altering ocean currents, which
transport heat and cold .
CONTINENTAL DRIFT
Huge volcanic eruptions can cool Earth
by injecting ash and tiny particles into
the stratosphere
COOLING EFFECT AFTER VOLCANIC
ERUPTION
BUT THE MOST
SIGNIFICANT FACTOR FOR CLIMATE
CHANGE ARE
GREENHOUSE GASES ARE:
FACTORY SMOKE

FOREST FIRES

VEHICLE EXHAUST

OIL REFINERIES
GREENHOUSE GASES
CAUSE
GREENHOUSE
EFFECT
• Greenhouse gases like
CO2 and H2O form a
blanket above the earth
surface.
• They trap the solar
heat.
• This leads to warming
of the atmosphere.
This leads to :
• More drought
• more flooding
• less ice and snow
• extreme weather
• rising sea level
FLOODS

DROUGHT

EXTREME WEATHER AND
NATURAL
CALAMITIES DUE TO GLOBAL
WARMING

POLAR MELTDOWN

SEVERE SNOWFALL
GLOBAL WARMING CAUSES MELTING GLACIERS

AND RISING SEA LEVELS
CYCLE

TO REDUCE YOUR
CARBON FOOTPRINT
BUT MAN’S GREED HAS ROBBED THE MOTHER
EARTH OF ITS BEAUTY AND BOUNTY.
WE HAVE TO STOP THIS MAYHEM BEFORE
ITS TOO LATE.
