CODES AND CONVENTIONS
My most recent task next to creating a preliminary task as well as some others, was
researching a film opening sequence, codes and conventions.
Unlike while working on the preliminary task, this time i ill be working completely on
my own. I think that independent tasks are definitely easier to do as you are the only
one with to power of decision making and are in full control of the project making
process.
The purpose of a film opening sequence is to introduce the audience to the genre of
the movie as well as establish the setting and indicate the mood and visual aspects
of the film, amongst other elements. This can be done by using certain types of
shots, sounds and soundtracks and character introduction.
This enables companies to present their company name, title, key production and
cast. There are many ways for directors to accomplish such things from the very
start of the film, which include an establishing shot, narration and/or flashbacks.
All of these aspects are used to draw people in and keep them invested from the
very beginning as well as target the fans of a specific genre.
The opening sequence needs to reflect the films tone and mood as well as present it
in the best light possible and possibly even set the expectations for events that
