Collocations and Idioms

This topic is directly related with the course “Lexical analysis” and our

formation, because collocation and idioms are important structure of English that we should

know correctly. On the other hand, it is helpful that we know how practicing collocations,

fixed and semi-fixed expressions and idioms, it is a crucial form to facilitate language

production and also the key to fluency as Lewis said. The text gives us good examples of

how indentify chunks, how to encourage the learning, the usage of collocations, idioms and

also how to practice with them in groups of work.

It is important that these structure of English are taught in the course, since, as

well as the other types of word formation explained in the other text, it will help us

understanding text easier, writing better, speaking better, listening better, moreover our

vocabulary will increase on a large scale.

In my opinion it is useful to us to study collocations and idioms in order to

increase the vocabulary and as teachers to learn techniques to teach these subjects properly.

It helps us to say in a natural and more “native” way something, as if we were

native speakers. Besides, in writings for instance, it will improve our style in writings, they

can give to our texts more variety and make it read better.
