COMMUNICATIVE
STYLE
•refers to the individual’s
preferred style of communicating
he thinks that is effective with
others.
FROZEN STYLE OR FIXED SPEECH
•It uses the complex grammatical sentence structure and vocabulary that
is only known by experts in the field.
•The use of language is fixed and does not require any feedback from the
audience.
•This type is often used in respectful situations or formal ceremonies
such as weddings, funerals, national pledges, school creeds, national
anthem, and Miranda rights.
FORMAL STYLE
•The speaker is expected to use formal words and expressions.
•It delivers in complete sentences with specific word usage.
•Formal Style disallows the use of ellipsis (omissions),
contractions, and qualifying modal adverbials such as probably,
possibly, evidently, surely, certainly, and subjectively marks.
•Examples: business meetings, job interviews, research
CONSULTATIVE STYLE OR UNPLANNED SPEECH
•This is used in semi-formal communication and is considered as
the most operational among the other styles.
• This process includes:
a.) The speaker supplies background information; and
b.) The listener participates continuously.
• Examples: discussions, trade conversations, group
brainstorming
CASUAL STYLE OR INFORMAL STYLE
•This communicative style is used in conversations between
friends and people who have something to share and have
shared background information.
•There is free and easy participation of both speaker and
listener.
•Examples: phone conversations, friendly chats
INTIMATE STYLE
•This type of communicative style is used in conversations
between people who are very close and have known each other
quite well because they have a maximum of shared background
information.
•Example: couple talking
