My School Community Community Powerpoint Presentation Summer Burns KK Zutter EDUC 513 S1-09
National Council for Social Studies Standard: People, Place, Environments Concept: Cooperation I want my students to understand that: Content Specific: For wide spread change to occur in our community or world, a great deal of involvement is required. Global Statement: “ The solution of important human problems requires human beings to engage in joint effort” (Taba et. al, 1971, p. 3).
National Council for Social Studies Standard: Time, Continuity, & Change Concept: Modification I want my students to understand that: Content Specific: Viewing our past can help influence how we interact with the world today that will effect how it is change from this moment forward. Global Statement: “ As man interacts with his physical and social environment, both he and the environment are change” (Taba et. al, 1971, p.5).
Emergent Questions What will help people get involved? What needs to happen to make people see the severity of our environmental state? What is stopping the government from enforcing strict laws on trash disposal (i.e. recycling, separating trash from recyclable materials). How is this problem viewed: a personal problem (I can change and improve the world) or a societal problem (We all have to change to improve the world) or both? What keeps people from changing? Why is taking care of the environment important? How many people need to change to make an impact? Does change need to occur in a top down model (government to people)? What will engage people to start the changes without government enforcement?
