TEST
• ▪ TEST Is A Method Of Measuring A Person’s Ability On
• Knowledge In A Given Area.
• ▪ Test Is An Instrument Or Activity And Systematic Procedure
For Measuring A Sampling Of Behavior/Attribute Of Interest.
• TEST is the form of questioning or measuring tool used to
• access the status of one’s skill, attitude and fitness.
• TEST is an instrument or a tool used to make a particular
• measurement.
Meaning Of Testing
•It Is A Technique Of Obtaining
Information Needed For Evaluation
Purposes. (Tests, Quizzes, Measuring
Instruments) Are Devices Used To Obtain
Such Information.
Measurement
• 1.Measurement Is The Process Of Quantifying The Degree To
• Which Someone Or Something Possesses A Given Trait, I.E.
• Quality, Characteristics Or Feature (Gay, 1985).
• 2. Measurement Is The Process Of Obtaining A Numerical
• Description Of The Degree To Which An Individual
• Possesses A Particular Characteristic. It Answers The
• Question, “How Much?” (Linn And Gronlund, 2003).
•3. Measurement Is The Process Of
Quantifying Or Assigning A Number To
Performance (Airasian, 1994).
•4. Measurement Is The Process Of
Assigning Numbers To Individuals Or
Their Characteristics According To
Specified Rules. (Ebel & Frisbie, 1991)
Steps of MEASUREMENT
• Define The Characteristics That You Want To Measure.
• 2. Select The Appropriate Test (Appropriate Testing Instruments).
• 3. Administer The Test (Use The Instrument Correctly)
• 4. Collect And Record The Measurement From The Test
Functions Of Measurement
• Instructional:
• ▪ It Has A Key Function In Measurement Which Involves Two Steps
Again
• Such As:
• 1. PRINCIPAL It Has A Basic Purpose In Measurement That Involves
• Such As:
• ▪ To Determine What Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Habits And
Attitudes Have Been Acquired
• ▪ To Determine Strength And Weakness, Difficulties, Progress And
Needs Of Students
Functions Of Measurement
• 2. SECONDARY It Has An Auxiliary Function For Effective Teaching And
• Learning Which Involves:
• ▪ To Develop The Effort Making Capacity Of Students
• ▪ To Serve As Aid For Guidance, Counselling, And Prognosis
Supervisory
• It Includes Administrative Purposes Such As:
• ▪ To Maintain Standards
• ▪ To Classify Or Select Special Purposes
• ▪ To Serve As A Basis Or Guide For Curriculum Making And Developing
Assessment
• Assessment in education is the process of gathering, interpreting,
recording, and using information about pupils’ responses to an
educational task (Harlen, Gipps, Broadfoot, Nuttal,1992).
• 2. Assessment is a general term that includes the full range of
procedures used to gain information about student learning
(observations, ratings of performances or projects, paper-and-
penciltests) and the formation of value judgments concerning
learningprogress (Linn and Gronlund, 2003, p. 31).
• Assessment Is A General Term That Includes All
The Ways Teachers Gather Information In Their
Classrooms............. It Is The Collection, Synthesis,
And Interpretation Of Information To Aid The
Teacher In Decision-making (Airasian, 1994, Pp. 5,
7).
• Assessment Involves The Interpretation Of
Measurement Data. It Makes Sense Of The Data
Collected On Student Performance (Murryprint
1993)
Evaluation
• Evaluation Is The Process Of Judging The Value Or Worth
Of An Individual’s Achievements Or Characteristics.
• ▪ The Purpose Of Evaluation Is To Make A Judgment About
The Quality Or Worth Of Something: (Educational
Program, Worker Performance, Student Attainments).
• ▪ It Is A Process That Include A Series Of Steps Such As
Establishing Objectives, Classifying Objectives, Defining
Objectives, Selecting Indicators And Comparing Data With
Objectives.
•▪ It Is Concerned With Making
Judgements On The Worth Or Value
Of Performance To Answer Question.
•▪ It Is Also Considered As Qualitative
Aspect Of Determining The
Outcomes Of Learning.
• Test: A test is used to measure someone’s
knowledge of something to determine what he
or she has learned. Testing measures the level
of skills or knowledge that has been reached.
• ▪ Measurement: Measurement is the process
of obtaining a numerical description of the
degree to which an individual possesses a
particular characteristics. It answer the
question: How much?
• Assessment: Assessment Is The Process Of
Documenting Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes
And Beliefs. The Goal Of Assessment Is To
Make Improvements Rather Than Being
Judged. Assessment Answer The Question:
How Well Does The Individual Perform?
• ▪ Evaluation: Evaluation Is The Process Of
Making Judgement Based On Criteria And
Evidence.
