- 21. 1. Both … and (Keduanya) Subjek yang menggunakan kata hubung both … and … termasuk subjek jamak (plural). Contoh: •I love playing both violin and piano. (Aku suka memainkan violin dan piano) •Both my mother and my father want me to be a lawyer. (Ibuku dan ayahku keduanya ingin aku menjadi seorang pengacara) •Both Helen and Thomas will go to the restaurant. (Helen dan Thomas keduanya akan pergi ke restoran)
- 22. 2. Either … or … (Baik … maupun …) Bisa diikuti oleh kata benda tunggal (singular noun) kata benda jamak (plural noun). Rumus: Either + noun + or + singular/plural noun + singular/plural verb Contoh: •Either you or your old brother is invited to come. (Baik aku maupun kakak laki-lakimu diundang untuk datang) •Either Nova and her partner is coming to the party. (Baik Nova maupun rekannya akan datang ke pesta) •Either I or my friend wants to see the film (Baik aku maupun temankun ingin menonton film) •Either Fandi or his employeed are not coming to the meeting. (Baik Fandi maupun pegawainya tidak datang rapat)
- 23. 3. Neither … nor … (Tidak keduanya) Bisa diikuti oleh kata benda tunggal (singular noun) atau kata benda jamak (plural noun). Rumus: Neither + noun + singular/plural noun + singular/plural verb Contoh: •Neither Jason nor Johan wants to play this song. (Baik Jason maupun Johan keduanya tidak ingin memainkan lagu ini) •Neither grandpa nor grandma was tired yesterday. (Baik kakek maupun nenekkeduanya tidak lelah kemarin) •Neither I nor my friends are interested in the music. (Baik aku maupun temanku keduanya tidak berminat musik)
- 24. 4. Not only … but also (Tidak hanya … tetapi juga …) Kata hubung ini juga harus digunakan secara berpasangan. Rumus: Subject + not only … (verb/adjective) but also … (verb/adjective) Contoh: •My cousin not only plays the piano but also writes the song. (Sepupuku tidak hanya bermain piano, tetapi juga menulis lagu) •Father not only typed the contract but also corrected it. (Ayah tidak hanya mengetik kontrak, tetapi juga mengoreksinya) •She is not only beautiful but also talented. (Dia tidak hanya cantik, tetapi juga berbakat) •Her new house not only large but also very nice. (Rumahnya tidak hanya besar, tetapi juga bagus) •My son not only clever but also diligent. (Anak saya tidak hanya pintar, tetapi juga rajin)
- 25. 5. Such/so … that … (Sangat … sehingga …) Contoh: •Anggi such a friendly person that everybody loves her. (Anggi sangat ramah sehingga banyak orang menyayanginya) •Winda is so kind that Adi likes her. (Winda sangat baik sehingga Adi menyukainya) •Ian is such a busy man that he can’t come to your birthday. (Ian orang yang sangat sibuk sehingga dia tidak datang ke pestamu.
- 26. whether . . . Or The conjunction “whether…or” also pairs up two options, but they must be clauses. Whether I drink a lot or a little, my face still gets red. Whether it’s sunny out or raining, we’re still going to see the concert. Whether the earrings are cheap or not, I’m still going to buy them. You have to take this class, whether or not you want to. (Walaupun bos saya mempunyai banyak uang, ia tidak arogan) 2.Since this weekend is raining, I will just stay at home. (Karena akhir pekan ini hujan, aku hanya akan tinggal di rumah) 3.While I was reading book, my aunt came. (Sementara aku membaca buku, bibiku datang) 4.She went to the meeting although she was ill. (Dia pergi rapat walapun dia sakit)

(Walaupun saya bisa berkendara, saya sering meminta orang tua saya untuk menyetiri ke kota) 2.Jane began her work after her friend had gone. (Jane memulai pekerjaanya setelah temannya pergi) 3.He had gone before I spoke to him. (Dia telah pergi sebelum aku berbicara dengannya) 4.We eat that we may live. (Kita makan agar kita bisa hidup) 5.Thousands died so that Indonesia may get freedom. (Ribuan orang mati supaya Indonesia bisa merdeka)
