InDesign
Front
Cover
I began by opening a new InDesign and started
by creating a new layer in which I placed the
title of my magazine “Original”, the text was
“Times New Roman” however by looking at it I
found that it was not very effective as it wasn’t
                        eye catching nor appealing.

                    1
                        I then made the text
                        bold however still I
                        found that it was not
                        as appealing and
                        eye catching as
                        what I had intended
                        so I came up with

                    2 the hypothesis that
it may be the font of
                        the text.

To begin with....
I then changed the font to “Tw Cen MT
Condensed” and I found this text more
effective a visually appealing however I still
found that still it did not stand out and give
out the look I intended, I then stretched the
text making it “taller” to see if this improved
the look and it did however there was still

3 one unknown element that was missing from
    that perfect finish.

    I then decided to put
    an effect on the text
    and found that the
    “outer glow” effect
    with a black glow
    was effective and
    found that this made

4 the text look slightly
    more appealing and
    eye catching.
1. I then created another layer and placed another layer of text which would be my magazine masthead on the
document, this text was also the same font as the title of my magazine as I found this text very appealing however
I made some slight changes so it was easy to differentiate the title from the masthead.

           One of the changes I
           made was that I set
           some of the text
bold, I did this to the
           number “50” as it
was different in the I also filled the text in black to
sense that it was the make it stand out slightly more
only numerical figure and make a “bold statement”, I
in the statement so I found it was very effective, I
decided it would also stretched the text slightly to I also had a set house colour for the front
make it stand out use the space allocated more cover of my magazine, one of the colours
           slightly more. sufficiently.

5 being black so I used the colour black in
two different ways on both my masthead
and headline to show emphasise the
                                                                           connection between both vital
                                                                           conventions.
To further apply my
    house colour to my
    cover I decided to
    made some other
    altercations to the
    masthead, some of the
    changes included
    changing the word
    “tunes” to purple,
    changing the words
    “twenty ten” to grey
    and then filling the
    numbers “50” white to
    make them stand out
    slightly more, it also
    made the statement
    look slightly odd and
    “miss matched” and
    this was the sort of
    image I was going for
    as it also reflects on
    the name of my
    magazine “original
    sides”

6
7
I then added the
second word of my
masthead, I used the
same font as the
masthead to show the
connection that they
read together, I then
added an effect on
the word to make it
stand out and put a
purple outer glow on it
to make it slightly
more eye catching, I
used the colour purple
as it is one of the
colours that consisted
in my chosen house
colours.
I then created a new layer in
which I would place my central
image, after creating the layer I
opened the image which was of a
    JPEG format

              After placing the image
it was all the matter of
              playing around with the
              image and finding the
              perfect place on the
              page to place it, I
              experimented by
              placing the image in
              several different spots
              on the page however in
the end I found that the
              image being in the
              centre was most
              effective so I went
              ahead and decided to
              place it there.

8 The model that I
               used wore purple
               which was also a
               continuation from my
               chosen house
               colours.
After placing the
    image I made sure
    that the display
    performance was on
    the highest quality to
    ensure it added to
    the appeal of the
    image as if it was
    blurry, the blurriness
    would takeaway the
    catchiness of the
    image and maybe
    put audiences of, it
    would also degrade
    the quality of the
    entire magazine
    cover along with
    making it look slightly
    cheap and “tacky”.

9
When placing the one of the add on’s After deciding what font I wanted I then filled the shape in
for my magazine I decided to play purple which added to the continuation of the chosen house
around with the types of fonts to see colours.
which one was most effective and
appealing, after looking at several font
I found that font type A was most I chose to do this as I had previously
effective so I decided to use this, it seen it in “Vibe” magazine which was one
was also different from the font of my
masthead which was ideal as this was
the look I was aiming for.
of my inspiration references, by shading
the shape it made the text within the
shape stand out and not blend in with the
                                                          rest of the text.
                                                                                          10
I then created another layer and began placing more

                                                                                      Left Third
text on the page however this time I placed the text
around the image to make good use of the allocated

11 space, I also did this as I had previously seen it in
Vibe magazine and found it was very smart as well
as eye catching, by adding the text around the image
it promoted further both the text written and the
     image making it stand out.

I used the same font for all the text along
the right hand side, however I made some
changes some of which included making
the word “Battle” bolder and taller and
                                                         making the words “Legacy” looser.
12 It also created a nice “pattern” amongst the
text making it more eye catching and
appealing as it is “odd” and will attract the
                  audiences attention.

                                                      I then continued with the
                                                      application of my house
colours , I did this by altering
the colours of some of the
                                                      words that I had previously
                                                      placed some of which
                                                      included the word “Legacy”
and changing it to a grey
colour as grey was one of my
                                                      4 house colours. This also
                                                      portrays the “unique” image I
                                                      was aiming for for my
magazine so by doing this it
                                                      added to it a little.
13
After placing the
previous text I then
created another layer in
which I would place my
secondary lead, after
doing so I enlarged the
text making it more eye
catching and dominant, I
then filled the text in
purple with a black
outline for two reasons
one of which included
the continuation of the
house colours in this
case both black and
purple and the other
reason being that it
stands out more against
a white background
something which I had.
As the bottom strip function is
                                                                                    to provide free information
                                                                                    that audiences will find useful
                                                                                    and interesting I decided to
include a free download as i
                                                                                    thought this would attract
                                                                                    more audiences into
                                                                                    purchasing the magazine
                                                                                    drawing in the readers
                                                                                    attention further.

In order to place my bottom strip I needed to create yet a other
layer, after placing the text for my bottom strip I decided to
alter the font yet again to “Trebuchet MS” I did this to add to
the dysfunctional image I was aiming for my magazine, it also
made it stand out slightly more as it was different to the other
                                  text.
I then further highlighted the words “Jessie J – Price Tag” to change the colour to purple to add to
the continuation of house colours to show the variation as well as creating a unique look. 14
After looking at the bottom strip I
had already placed I decided that
                      all audiences may not clearly
identify as it as being that specific
convention so I decided to add the
word “FREE” the strip to make it
clearer what it was exactly, I
stretched the word, wrote in in
capitals and put a glow around it to
make it stand out slightly more
                      making it more identifiable.

I placed a purple outer glow around the image
leaving the inside white as it made it stand out
slightly more, it also looked very eye catching
along with the clear continuation of two of the
                                                              house colours.

After successfully completing the placing of my bottom strip I then moved on to adding a barcode for the
magazine, after placing the JPEG image of the barcode on new layer I ensured the display performance was
on the highest quality to maintain the quality and look of the magazine to avoid any “blurred” marks.
When adding the puff on my cover I ensured
it was extra large and eye catching, to
accomplish this I ensured there was a glow
around the text making it stand out more and
overlapping the words “the” and “real”
emphasising the “unique” look of the
magazine, I also used the house colours to
                     show the connection and continuation.

Using the words “real issue” it emphasises the
exaggeration which successfully fulfils its given
role. This is usually used to attract audiences and
draw them in and wanting to then purchase the
                                 magazine.

When placing my stand first I ensured it was large and clearly visible to the
target audience clearly making its role identifiable, I made the artists name
the largest and purple to make it stand out and attract a larger audience such
                             as fans of the artist.

13 After placing the previoustext I then created another layer in which I would place my secondary lead, after doing so I enlarged the text making it more eye catching and dominant, I then filled the text in purple with a black outline for two reasons one of which included the continuation of the house colours in this case both black and purple and the other reason being that it stands out more against a white background something which I had.

As the bottomstrip function is to provide free information that audiences will find useful and interesting I decided to include a free download as i thought this would attract more audiences into purchasing the magazine drawing in the readers attention further. In order to place my bottom strip I needed to create yet a other layer, after placing the text for my bottom strip I decided to alter the font yet again to “Trebuchet MS” I did this to add to the dysfunctional image I was aiming for my magazine, it also made it stand out slightly more as it was different to the other text. I then further highlighted the words “Jessie J – Price Tag” to change the colour to purple to add to the continuation of house colours to show the variation as well as creating a unique look. 14

After looking atthe bottom strip I had already placed I decided that all audiences may not clearly identify as it as being that specific convention so I decided to add the word “FREE” the strip to make it clearer what it was exactly, I stretched the word, wrote in in capitals and put a glow around it to make it stand out slightly more making it more identifiable. I placed a purple outer glow around the image leaving the inside white as it made it stand out slightly more, it also looked very eye catching along with the clear continuation of two of the house colours. After successfully completing the placing of my bottom strip I then moved on to adding a barcode for the magazine, after placing the JPEG image of the barcode on new layer I ensured the display performance was on the highest quality to maintain the quality and look of the magazine to avoid any “blurred” marks.

When adding thepuff on my cover I ensured it was extra large and eye catching, to accomplish this I ensured there was a glow around the text making it stand out more and overlapping the words “the” and “real” emphasising the “unique” look of the magazine, I also used the house colours to show the connection and continuation. Using the words “real issue” it emphasises the exaggeration which successfully fulfils its given role. This is usually used to attract audiences and draw them in and wanting to then purchase the magazine. When placing my stand first I ensured it was large and clearly visible to the target audience clearly making its role identifiable, I made the artists name the largest and purple to make it stand out and attract a larger audience such as fans of the artist.
