• Since the early 1980s the opening credits
  usually identify the major actors and crew
  usually listed in order or appearance and/or
  importance. The opening credits usually
  include the name of production company, the
  director, the producer, the executive producer,
  the top billing actors and not forgetting the
  movie title.

Opening Credits
• The opening credits are usually shown as text
  superimposed on a blank screen or static
  image but sometimes it is shown on top of
  action in the show. It may or may not be
  accompanied with music.
Brief Scene
• Sometimes the opening credits may be
  preceded by a brief scene or a teaser that
  helps set the scene for the film.
Cinematography
• Cinematography could also be classes as a
  opening sequence convention. It can
  foreshadow what the theme of the film will
  be. For example, the opening sequence for a
  romantic film may use establishing/master
  shots to convey the setting.
Sound
• The sound in a opening sequence could be
  very important as it sets the atmosphere for
  the whole film. For example, a thriller may be
  accompanied by eerie music in the opening
  sequence.
