COSTUME PLANNING
hen considering
the styling and
costume planning
for my music vid-eo
I have needed
to consider not
only what my artist is going to
where but the female that will also
feature in the music video.
Due to choosing the song “Hey
There Delilah” by The Plain White
T’s and considering the typical
audiences and artists within this
genre I have
come to a con-clusion
that the
styling is not all
about heels and
dresses which
is seen in pop music videos. They
styling I have chosen to go with
for my music video is almost a
‘laid back’ style. This being for
both characters during the perfor-mance
and narrative side to my
music vdieo.
G I R L S
For the female character that will
be in the music video narrative
side I have decided to style her in
clothes which could be argued as
everyday clothes that look good
with little effort. This is due to me
wanting the girl to come across
as a character who is indie that
enjoys going to festivels and gigs
rather than parties, clubbing and
dressig up. The clothing items
i shall use are boots (top right)
which are dull brown or black,
with a baggy t - shirts and cardi-gen
which I believe should be long
and of a brighter colour than the
rest of the outfit. In order to make
the female stand out I shall dress
her in knee high socks to enhance
her individuality.
When considering the outfit as
a whole I would want the girl to
be portrayed as friendly and easy
going, not taking her styling and
fashion too serious with popular
brand or labels due to that con-trasting
the type of people that
would watch the music video as
well as the artists themselves being
more focused on lyrics and music.
I shall ensure that when I film the
girl in her outfits her hair will be
naturally wavey and her make up
natural looking with potentially
black eyeliner on her eye lid. This
is due to me wanting to show the
girl from the males opinion of her
and thoughts, enforcing the lyircs.
Finally I shall make sure the girl is
wearing a red lipstick to match her
hair as well as make sure that she
is brunnet or ginger (top left) in
order to stand out and be different
to a typcical girl.
G U Y S
The male artist that will be the
main focus in the song and be in
both the performance side and the
narrative side will be dressed in
the same style of clothing com-pared
to the woman. This mean-ing
that I shall dress the male in
clothing which can be described
as Indie.
The clothing idea I have is smart
casual, which allows the audience
to feel comfortable and laid back
when watching the music video
rather than feeling that is ‘fake’
and put on but
true to the lyrics
and meaning-ful
to the artist
allowing the au-diences
that are
male to relate and respond.
He shall be wearing a casual shirt
or top (bottom middle or right)
with potentially braces and a
beanie hat. This is to show that he
is a laid back character and it is
all about his feelings towards the
girl rather than his appearance
and fashion style. Furthermore,
the male will be wearing jeans to
make the outift look casual.
I shall not use deisnger brands due
to it being unrealistic that the stu-dents
that would listen to the aritst
would buy the same clothing.
