- 13. • Rotation isthe movement of the Earth on its axis. • The Earth spins in counterclockwise direction or from west to east. • Axis is the imaginary line that passes through the poles at which the Earth rotates. • The Earth’s axis is not straight. It is tilted or slanted by 23.5˚.
- 14. • It takes24 hours or one day to make a complete rotation of the Earth. • This rotation period is called solar day, or the time between noon of one day and noon of the next appearance of the sun directly overhead. • During the interval, the Earth moves along its orbit, or the imaginary path around the sun, so the sun appears to move eastward in the sky.
