The median nerve originates from the brachial plexus and descends down the arm, crossing over the brachial artery. In the forearm, it travels between flexor muscles and gives off two major branches: the anterior interosseous nerve and palmar cutaneous nerve. The median nerve enters the hand through the carpal tunnel, where it divides into a recurrent branch for the thenar muscles and a palmar digital branch for the lateral fingers and lumbrical muscles.
