This document discusses the rules for naming binary covalent compounds. Binary covalent compounds are composed of two non-metal elements that share electrons. The first element is named first using its full name, while the second element name has the ending dropped and replaced with -ide. Prefixes are used to indicate the number of atoms present and are not used with the first element name except for mono-. Examples are provided such as boron trifluoride (BF3) and carbon trichloride (CCl3).
