She was called the FIRST LADY OF THE
PHILIPPINE THEATER because of her magnificent
performances in classic Filipino and
international theater productions and plays.
Some of her significant productions are
Othello, Macbeth in Black, Walang Sugat and
many more.
Daisy Avellana
Popularized the Philippine theater and
dramatic arts by founding the Barangay
Theater Guild with her husband, National
Artist Lamberto Avellana . They utilize radio
and television to make theater and dramatic
arts are to known to Filipinos.

He was an outstanding stage director, poet
and play wright known for his numeroud
markable productions and notable scripts. He
established and became the administrator of
Ateneo Experimental Theater. He handled the
Teatro Pilipino where he revived the sarswela
and other traditional Filipino Drama and,

Introduced contemporary Western drama.
Also a National Artist for Literature. Some
of his works include film scripts for Now
and Forever, Gamitin Mo Ako, and Milagros.
Sarswela works are Ang Mestiza and Ana
Maria.

A teacher and an artist for 35 years. He was
introduced and popularized Philippine
theater to different parts of the country by
establishing the UP Mobile Theater. The UP
Mobile Theater has delivered thousand of
performances for 19 long years to many
campuses in the Philippines.
Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero
His major works included Wanted: A
Chaperon, Condemned, Perhaps, In
Unity, Three Rats, The Forsaken House,
Frustrations and many more.

At 7, she has already been a part of
different Spanish Zarzuelas. She played
many roles in numerous productions
where she became popular and hailed as
the Queen of Kundiman.
Honorata “Atang” Dela Rama
Performed kundiman and Filipino songs for
indigenous communities all over the country.
For her, Kundiman and sarswelas mirrors the
Filipino people. The sarswelas she became
part of are Dalagang Bukid, Mascota, Marina,
Pangarap ni Rosa etc.

The songs she popularized are
Pakiusap, Ay Kalisud, Madaling Araw,
and Kung Iibig Ka. The sarswelas she
wrote are Puri at Bahay, Anak ni Eba,
and Aking ina.

hundreds of theater production for a span of
four decades. He used local materials in
producing creative and unique sets and
costumes. Professor at the University of the
Philippines Diliman and Ateneo De Manila

Salvador F. Bernal
Bernal established the PATDAT (Philippine
Association of the Theater Designers and
Technicians) in 1995 to promote theater design.
He introduced the Philippine Theater design
trhough the Philippine Center of OISTAT
(Organization Internationale, des Scenographers,
Technicians et Architectus du Theatre).
Salvador F. Bernal
He is the Titan of the Philippine Theater. He
took the lead in promoting “legitimate theater”
in the country. Top caliber playswright, theater
artist and director who took up degress in and
outside the country to master theater arts and
to share his knowledge t younger Filipino
generation.
Severino Montano
He started his career and education at the
University of the Philippines where he studies
education and became the head of the UP
Dramatic Club. His journey continued ad he
entered different universities in the United
States like America University, Yale University,
and New York University.

He became the dean of the Philippine Normal
College where he founded the Arena Theater in
1953. The Arena Theater served the grassroots
and promoted drama to the masses through
school community theaters. He aslo developed
graduate programs for theater arts in PNC.

PERFORMERS
Actors or Performers are people who
entertain an audience by acting, singing or
dancing. They play characters on stage or
screen and work with the direction of the
creative team to bring a piece of theatre to
life.
AUDIENCE
The audience plays key roles in theatrical
performances. In essence, the audience is made
up of consumers who drive the theatrical process.
From the crafting script to the casting, how the
audience responds drives the decision-making
process.
DIRECTOR
A theatre director is responsible for leading the process of
creating a show and representing the script accurately by
providing guidance to the members. This role oversees
many aspects of the performance side and the
planning side. A theatre director may also be
referred to as a stage director, or simply a director.
SPACE
Finally there is theatre space, the area
occupied by the audience and the actors during the
course of a performance and which is
characterized by the theatrical relationship fostered
between the two.
VISUAL ASPECT
VISUAL ASPECTS- includes costumes,
lightning, and some form of scenic
background.
NONVISUAL ASPECTS- includes sound, and
background music.
SCRIPT
A script, which is an adjustment of the story for
the purposes of stage performance, contains
information about how the actor is to
carry himself on stage, speak, dress, etc.
Each of these fillers can be an
interpretation.
