CPEC (CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR)
BACKGROUND
 CPEC is a collection of projects.
 Project was formally conceived in may 2013
 Prime minister LI Keqiang officially visited Pakistan on 22 may 2013.
 Later on prime minister Nawaz Sharif made visits to china to discuss the importance
of project .
 President Xi jinping visited Pakistan in April 2015 and formally announced china's
offer of us $46 billion.
 Agreements were inked giving importance to energy projects.
INTRODUCTION
 CPEC is a series of under construction projects of worth more than $50 billon.
 It is a 3000 km long extensive network of roads ,railways, pipelines and fiber
cable network.
 CPEC will link kashgar in northwest china's Xinjian Uyghur Autonomous Region
and southwest Pakistan's Gwadar Port.
 CPEC is considered as a golden opportunity for Pakistan develop its
infrastructure
 China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a framework of regional connectivity.
CPEC will not only benefit China and Pakistan but will have positive impact on
Iran, Afghanistan, India, Central Asian Republic, and the region.
 China Pakistan Economic Corridor is hope of better region of the future with
peace, development and growth of economy.
OBJECTIVE OF CPEC
 Expand trade with Afghanistan and it help both countries to play their role in post-2014 Afghanistan
 Expand trade with Russia by providing trade route till Gwadar port
 Development of infrastructure along Pakistan
 China access to the Indian Ocean with the aim of widening its geopolitical influence and military presence
in the region
 Job opportunities and economic development in Pakistan.
 Increase Chinese investment, Pakistani investment in china will also be encouraged
 Regional peace, prosperity and elevate the life of poor people of south Asia
 Enhance trade among Pakistan, China, Gulf States, Central Asia and Africa

ment of skilled manpower. Plans have to be made to assess the long term manpower requirement
