WHAT IS CYBERBULLYING?
Cyberbullying is
bullying that takes
place when
someone uses
electronic devices
to bullying a
person.
Cyberbullying
includes sending,
posting, or sharing
negative, harmful,
false, or mean
content about
someone else.

Denigration
An attempt to damage
the victim’s reputation or
ruin the friendships that
he/she has by spreading
unfounded rumors online.
Exclusion
Intentionally excluding or
singling someone out
from a virtual group
Outing
Cyber bully uses
technological means to
publicly share private
information without
permission with the intent
to hurt the victim
Trickery
Tricking the victim into
believing that they are
speaking in confidence
with a friend and that
they can share
private/sensitive
information, then using
the information against
them by publicly
disseminating it to others
Cyber Stalking
Victims receive
threatening and
disparaging electronic
messages. (messages are
extremely intimidating
and ten to instill deep
fear in victims)
STATISTICS
Boys are more likely to be cyberbully perpetrators and girls are more like to be
cyberbully targets.
More than 1 in 3 young people have experienced cyberthreats online
Over 35% of adolescents and teens have been. Bullied repeatedly through their
cell phones or the internet.
Only 1 in 10 teens tell a parent if they have been a cyber bully victim
Fewer than 1 in 5 cyberbullying incidents are reported to law enforcement
1 in 10 adolescents or teens have had embarrassing or damaging pictures taken
of themselves without their permissions
About 1 in 5 teens have posted or sent sexually suggestive or nude pictures of
themselves to others
About half of young people have experience some from of cyberbullying and 10%
to 20% experience it regularly

Has an unexplained decline in grades
Refuses to go to school or expresses anger with a
specific class or school in general

- Stalking and hate crimes

The school will help to prevent
and respond to cyberbullying
In most states, schools are
required to address
cyberbullying in their anti-
bullying policy and some also
cover off campus bullying that
creates a disruptive or hostile
school environment
