What is Digital Twins?
A digital twin is a precise visualization of a physical object such as a product or
infrastructure component. They are typically used to display information about the
physical object collected with systems and sensors.
The digital twin concept model consists of three main parts: physical products in
real space, virtual products in virtual space the connected data that tie the
physical and virtual products together.
The stream of data that connects the digital twin and its physical counterpart is
called the digital thread.
Present In Digital Twin
Typically referred to as “IIoT” or the Industrial Internet of Things.
Operational Twins: It’s the data model using DT along with some level of data
integrity, allows operators to quickly serve data to the appropriate constituents and
applications no matter the analytical use case.
Operational Twins with Events:The Operational Digital Twin is the foundation to
these labeled events, the ML analysis can run across thousands of sensors and
over a decade's worth of data.
Adoption of Digital Twin by Manufacturing Industries
Advantages
Real time update is available Anywhere or Collaboration
Constant data generated on which various statistical analysis can be done.
Improve or optimize given product or entity.
Reduce product defects and production costs.
Shorten time to release product.
Eliminates the use of symbols or numbers extracted from the visual information.
Disadvantages or Challenges
Sensors should always be attached to the product in order to generate data.
Large Datasets are needed for better accuracy.
Internet Connectivity is needed.
Accuracy is only predicted not 100% confirmed.
Digital Twins concept is based on 3D CAD models and not on 2D drawings.
Security is at stake.

Conclusion
As humans and physical objects are becoming increasingly connected, gaining
useful insights from the massive amount of data involved becomes extremely
important. Digital twin provides useful insights by creating a virtual space where
data can be visualized. As industries and businesses look at gaining a competitive
edge, adopting smart solutions such as digital twin becomes imperative to stay
ahead in the market.
