  This is thedouble page spread for the music magazine ‘Kerrang!’. The colour of the font is white against a black background and framing. The text looks as if each letter has been cut from a newspaper as they are all mismatched. This gives the page more of a “rock’n’roll” theme. It uses a pull-quote which is a quotation taken from the interview with the pictured music artist. The pull quote itself goes over onto the second page and part of the image crosses over onto the first page which links the two together. This convention is used so the reader knows what to expect in the interview featured on that page. This double page spread doesn’t follow the normal conventions of a double page spread as it only features one main image which covers the majority of the second page. The pose shows dominance and attitude which is relevant for the pull quote stated in the headingThe article is featured under the main heading on just one page. It uses standard font which allows it to be easy to read for the reader. It is neatly set out in four separate columns. Above the article itself is a subheading which informs readers what information is in the article below. The artists name ‘Lily Allen’ is written in red which makes it stand out and allows readers to know who the pictured artist is and relate the image, heading and article together. The subheading is a commonly used technique which provides extra information for readers before they read the article

  The left handside of this double page spread consists of one article about the pictured band. The first block of text includes a main heading and a subheading. The main heading is a much larger font than the rest of the writing on that page which makes it stand out and draw attention to what is presented on that page. The heading is also yellow and capitalised which contrasts with the background and makes the page look eye catching. It states ‘Step Inside…’ this interacts with and encourages readers to read the article as it acts as an invitation for them to find out more. The subheading is also capitalised which reinstates that it is a heading. It is white which differs from the main heading but also stands out against the background. The second section of text is the article itself which is written in smaller writing in order to separate the two blocks of textThis is the double page spread for the music magazine ‘Q’. This is a very plain looking spread due to the lack of text, images and increased amount of space unlike conventional double page spreads. On the right hand side is on large image. This image is of a well known band ‘Kings of Leon’ and their name is in the top left hand corner of the first page. The immediate heading provides the readers with an obvious link to the image. The background of the spread in black which is quite dull and could be looked upon as boring. However, the image consists of much lighter, more natural colours

  This double pagespread is a very eye catching, bright and attractive spread. It features a backdrop which is one of the first things a reader’s eye would see. ‘USA’ is in a light grey font covering nearly two whole pages, set behind the images and other text. A heading ‘got the love’ overlaps it to create one main heading – ‘USA got the love’. This is a play on words as one of the featured artist’s songs is called ‘You Got The Love’. This would appeal to audiences as they can relate to itThe magazine consists of a coloured photograph of Florence, the singer of the band. She’s sitting on a block covered by red and white material. The colours used may represent the USA without it being brazen. The colours used also contrasts the colour of her hair. This allows the colour of her vibrant red hair to stand out even more. The red and white striped material also brings colour to the spread as the other colours used are very plain and simple.Her dress is very eccentric and makes a statement even though the colour is black. The colour of her hair contrasts with her dress which draws in the reader’s focus completely on Florence. Her dress consists of two cones on the chest which may appeal to the American audience. The article may want to appeal to them because it is based around the USA, as shown in the backdrop of the spread. This type of dress is very popular with American artists therefore by altering her image in this way, the magazine can reach a range of audiences.

  This is thedouble page spread for the music magazine ‘NME’. It seems to follow the conventional look of double page spreads as it includes a selection of images as well as one main image and some written text. The text and the images are of the band Florence and the Machine. The main heading for the page spread overlaps the images which makes it stand out. It is a simple black font which sits well within the busyness of the rest of the spread. The article is roughly centred between the two pages and includes a subheading above the text. The subheading provides initial information for the reader so they are aware of what is featured in the article on that page. We can see that within the text, there are some words written in pink. This has been done to attract attention to them particular words or phrases and suggests importance.On the left hand side is the main image of Florence and this image tells the readers who the double page spread is based around. The main image used is big and bold with lots of bright colours giving it a bright and funky edge reflecting the magazines genre. The images on the right side of the page spread are of Florence singing with other various artists presenting the idea that Florence is a well known popular artist as she is singer with other well developed artists. The images include taglines in the right hand corner of each photograph which provides information about that particular image

  The main imageis of a young girl in a black and white tone. She holds a very edgy and secretive pose as her head is tilted back and the readers cannot see her whole face. Her outfit fits this persona as it is unique and has quite an ‘indie’ style. Surrounding the image is white space which hold no headings, text or additional images. The main heading overlaps the image and keeps the running colour scheme using white and grey. It is a large yet simple font with the two words contrasting. The first word is capitalised, however, the second word is all in lower case. There is no other headings or subheadings therefore, there is no initial information for the reader in order to know what the article is about. The only information this spread provides them with at first glance is the title itself. The main article is written in simple black font and is separated into 3 columns. It only takes up the bottom half of the second page, and the rest of the page has been left blank. This double page spread was featured in ‘Vibe’ magazine and is an extremely unusual spread. At first glance, it doesn’t appear to follow the conventions of a typical music magazine. There is only one image, and a lot of blank white space. There is also only one main heading with no subheading to provide extra information for the reader. The spread doesn’t look like it is related to music therefore could attract readers even more than usual due to the unique and mysterious look. Although it appears plain, it has a classy look to it due to the simplicity of the text, image and layout and the black and white tone.
