Unit 1
Editing analysis
Micro Analysis
The first shot taken in a scene is to establish the narrative. In the first
scene we see the family in the car and we see the relationship till the 3,
the child, the mother and the father.
Cut 1
In this scene we are still being showed the family with slow shots,
nothing really happens as its building a relaxed feeling for the crowd
who do not expect the crash.
Cut 2
The cuts in this scene are still slow and uninteresting which is leading
the viewer to thinking nothing is happening, making the crash more of
a surprise
Cut 3
In this scene the impact with the van happens, which comes as a
surprise to the viewer, a part of this being the change to fast shots while
the crash is happening
Cut 4
These quick cuts through the crash are fast paced to make the
scene go faster and rush through the violence of the situation
the entire seen was roughly 2 seconds
Cut 5
In this scene we see the father get killed and the child off scene. This
happens quickly focusing on the father to extend the violence, In this
scene the poles were replaced with CGI poles.
Cut 6
The last shot in the sequence slowly pans away from the car showing
the crash in its entirety, this shot shows us what has happened and
allows the viewer to process what has happened
Cut 7
Transition
In the last seconds of the seen it slowly fades into a black screen at a
slow pace, this transition to a black screen at its speed helps the viewer
to wind down after the crash which the viewer will find shocking and
sudden. This also helps the viewer to understand that we have
progressed in time after the events of the crash
Pace
In the scene the pace adapts to the story, as in the scene starts off slow
and slowly speeds up until the crash, then the crash gets flashed by the
viewer quickly and then its all over, this pace is to move over the scene
quickly and make the viewer feel like the event was significant and over
very fast, this editing makes the viewer feel a part of the scene and a
part of the crash.
