EECP therapy is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses inflatable pressure cuffs around the legs to enhance blood flow. A study found that EECP therapy improved exercise tolerance in angina patients by extending time to ischemia and reducing angina episodes compared to a control group. A separate study in heart failure patients found that EECP therapy improved exercise duration and functional status more than medication alone as measured at various follow-ups. The therapy was shown to be safe with most common side effect being leg discomfort. EECP therapy works through various mechanisms like improving endothelial function and reducing cardiac workload.
