Acronyms and terminology www : World-Wide-Web is a system that enables the provision of, and access to, various information resources on the internet. World-wild-web documents consist of text that may incorporate links to related documents, graphics, sounds & movies. Browser – a software/program that is used on a networked computer to access the world-wide-web. URL – Uniform Resources Locator – the address of any thing on the internet. Webpage – the file that is displayed by the browser. Web Server – a computer on the network that makes webpage available. HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) – Language used to create webpage.

Important terminologies Bandwidth - A measurement of how much information can be transmitted at a given time over the Internet. Book marking - A way of storing pointers to favorite Web sites in your browser. AntiVirus Program - Software that monitors a computer for viruses and eliminates them before damage occurs. allow the viewing, downloading, and uploading of files on remote computers. HTTP - Hypertext Transfer Protocol. The Internet protocol that the Web uses to send information to the client, so the client browser can view Web pages.

Important terminologies HTML - Hypertext Markup Language. The standard for adding tags to a text file, so that the file is able to be interpreted by a Web browser. Hyperlink - An icon, graphic, or word in a file that, when clicked with the mouse, automatically opens another file for viewing. Also called a hotlink or link. Icon - A small abstract graphic representation of an object or idea. Link - A word or phrase emphasized in a hypertext document that acts as a pointer to related information. Links in a Web browser are usually underlined and are a different color than the rest of the text. URL - Uniform Resource Locator. Describes the location and access method of a resource on the Internet. This is also known as the "Web site address."

What is internet "The Internet is a cooperative computer network of networks that links governments, schools, libraries, corporations, individuals, and others to each other and to vast information resources. The Internet protocol links many disparate and independent networks together so that they appear as a single network to the user.... What are the advantages of PDF? It is a cross platform standard. This means that somebody can create a PDF file on a Unix workstation and you can open it on a Mac or PC and still see the document just like it was intended to be viewed. PDF files are compact. PDF supports a number of sophisticated compression algorithms as well as a clever file structure to keep the file size of PDF files down to an absolute minimum. PDF files can contain multimedia elements like movies or sound as well as hypertext elements like bookmarks, links to e-mail addresses or web pages and thumbnail views of pages. PDF supports security. The creator of a PDF file can set various security options. It is possible to lock a PDF so it can only be opened with a password. It is also possible to forbid changing the content of a PDF or disable the option to print a PDF file.
