Elements of Fiction Visual Map Project
Due October 29th/30th (Worth two grades: project & test grade)
Your assignment is to create a VISUAL story map of the elements of fiction in “The Scarlet
Ibis,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” or “The Necklace.” You will break up a small poster sized paper
(provided by Ms. Longoria) into SEVEN sections. The sections do not have to be equally sized, but
should each have enough space to complete the required elements.
Each one of the seven sections will represent one of the elements of fiction.
1. Setting – Draw and describe one of the settings from the story. Write a sentence detailing why
the setting is relevant or important to the story.
2. Characters – Draw and describe one of the characters from the story. Is the character Round
or Flat? Static or Dynamic? Is your character the antagonist or protagonist?
3. POV – What point of view is the story told in? Find a quote from the story that proves that it is
in that particular POV.
4. Plot –Draw a simple plot diagram. What is the exposition of the story? Name at least TWO
rising actions. What is the climax of the story? What is the falling action? What is the resolution or
denouement of the story?
Also INCLUDE ONE MAJOR Conflict. Write a sentence explaining whether it is internal or external.

6. Theme – What is theme in the story? What statement is the author making about life?
7. Irony – Explain one ironic element from the story: verbal, situational, or dramatic.
