Editor's Notes

  • #4: This series provides a good overview and introduction to many emerging technologies. It is a good place to start when looking at what technologies are emerging. These seven questions also provide a good approach to how we should research a new technology.
  • #5: Infrastructure as a Service is a provision model in which an organization outsources the equipment used to support operations, including storage, hardware, servers and networking components. The service provider owns the equipment and is responsible for housing, running and maintaining it. The client typically pays on a per-use basis. Often small to medium business would use IaaS to offer services to their clients. Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a way to rent hardware, operating systems, storage and network capacity over the Internet. The idea that you would offer an entire ecosystem to a client/customer to create their own sort of portal. Google can probably be thought of more as a Paas, but they are also the provider, infrastructure and software as a service.
  • #7: Social Media is everywhere, it’s nearly not considered media if it’s not social at this point There are many, many platforms for many different purposes.
  • #8: Mobile Business Intelligence (Mobile BI or Mobile Intelligence) refers to the distribution of business data to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. Business intelligence (BI) refers to computer-based techniques used in spotting, digging-out, and analyzing business data, such as sales revenue by products and/or departments or associated costs and incomes.[1]
  • #9: Rainie, Lee MOBILE Pew Internet & American Life Project, October 4, 2012, http://pewinternet.org/Reports/2012/Tablet-Ownership-August-2012.aspx accessed on October 10, 2012.
  • #10: Nokia windows phone is out. Amazon is working on a smartphone. Phablet Image: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/tablets/3359715/samsung-galaxy-s3-is-phablet-not-smartphone/
  • #12: Near field communication (NFC) is a set of standards for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity, usually no more than a few centimetres. based on existing radio-frequency identification (RFID) standards. NFC devices can be used in contactless payment systems, similar to those currently used in credit cards and electronic ticket smartcards, and allow mobile payment to replace or supplement these systems. For example, Google Wallet allows consumers to store credit card and store loyalty card information in a virtual wallet and then use an NFC-enabled device at terminals that also accept MasterCard PayPass transactions.[
  • #18: 64-bit is the new black when it comes to servers
  • #20: Image: http://www.siemens.com
