Throughout the semester I have learned a lot about my strengths. At first, I had no
clue what they were. I also had no clue that they can help explain why certain
people work well in a group together or why they don t. My strengths have helped
me adjust to life as a college student and even helped me to figure out what I want to

Leadership book, the networking event, and even the peer mentor presentations gave

never experienced before. I wasn t hesitant about starting college but once I got

are on campus and classes were very different from what I expected them to be.
FYS Goal one, found on the strengths reflection paper guidelines is, To connect you
to the resources that promote belonging, wellness, personal development, and
success in the first year . I feel as though FYS 1025 has helped me meet that goal
because I now know about many of the resources centers here. I learned about them
through Jordan s peer mentor moments, whether she was talking about the Center
for Student Success or the CCPD. Jordan s peer mentor moments helped me locate
the different resource around campus and even understand what they were about.
Even though I haven t been to some of them, I was able to help people not in our

of Sudan known as Darfur. These fights have been taking place since 2003 and

government that is killing a local population. The citizens of the region of Darfur
that are being killed are not Arabic, like the majority of the rest of Sudan is,

Frodo, the protagonist of The Fellowship of the Rings, is given his call to adventure
at the Shire. It occurs when Gandalf realizes that Bilbo Baggins ring is in fact the
One Ring of Sauron, the dark lord. This ring contains great power and evil within it.
Gandalf realizes the artifact s true danger, and realizes it must be taken from the
peaceful Shire. He entrusts the task of its transportation to Frodo Baggins, the nephew

The abyss originally begins with the loss of Gandalf, a mentor. Sadness washes
over the Fellowship with the loss of the gray wizard. Gandalf provided wisdom
and knowledge of all creatures and places, and was the reason Frodo began his
journey originally. Therefore, Frodo feels that there is no way to recover from this
wound, and that practically all hope is lost. He realizes their chances of success are
slim, for he is without a steady, guiding figure.
