  In what waysdoes your production use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real fiction films in your chosen genre? Evaluation Question 1

  Genre My chosen genreis Horror, there are two different directions that I could’ve taken, when making my film. Either supernatural including ghosts and mystery or a classic gruesome including blood etc. For my film, I chose supernatural, as I find these films can build up more tension and suspense, and I liked this idea.

  Supernatural films include: •Insidious (2010) • The conjuring (2013) • Paranormal activity (2007)

  My Film… My filmconsists of a young girl (Scarlett) who is the first character we see, and she is playing a game, this is typical and predictable to have a young character in a supernatural film as demonstrated in Orphan and Insidious. However to differ my film from other classic Horror films the little girl isn’t the antagonist, which could come across as surprising to the audience, despite this, it brings more mystery to the opening sequence and entices the audience, making them want to carry on watching.

  How my openingsequence sets out the rest of the film My opening sequence sets out the rest of the film, as it ends on a cliff-hanger. The scene is left with the Father looking worried and concerned about the fact that his daughter is seeing a ghost. This sets the audience up for the rest of the film as they are left wandering why the little girl is seeing the ghost, but the Father is not, and what actually happened to the Babysitter, and most importantly why is she back in the little girls life?

  Title Choosing the titlefor my film wasn’t too difficult for me. I had two different ideas in mind, so I went back and looked at Horror film titles. I found that I liked the titles which start with ‘The’ at the beginning such as ‘The Conjuring’ due to the fact that I feel it makes the film look more serious in comparison to if it just said ‘Unknown Truth’. My title adds tension to my film, as it leaves the audience wandering what the ‘truth’ was and why it is ‘unknown’. This is one of the reasons I chose to make my title ‘The Unknown Truth’.

  Sound Sound was animportant factor in my film, as I used two different sound tracks adding in through editing, this was non-diegetic sounds. In many Horror films (especially supernatural) they have low-tone music which builds up as the scene passes. They have this so the tension is increased and the audience will feel a thrill or jump at the correct part. I have used the skills I have learned in editing and applied a similar concept, whereby my music is low-tone and builds up at the correct parts.
