Evaluation Question 4
 From research into audiences of Indie Pop/ Electronica music, the
target audience age for my particular media product would be 16-
30 year olds of all genders. The people who would purchase my
magazine are people who are into new music which is on the
verge of popularity and people who go to concerts and festivals;
those with a keen interest in music. A lot of the time, musicians in
this genre start certain fashion trends and have attainable styles.
According to UK tribes, these people would be predominantly
'Scenesters' (Part of the Leading Edge tribe) - 'Setting themselves
apart by creating new trends by co-opting fashion and music from across
the Tribal map and blending it with their own individual attitudes. Ever
difficult to pin down, they move at lightning speed through youth culture
– moving onto whats ‘next’ before it has a chance to become ‘now’.' Also
certain brackets of the 'Mainstream' tribe could be attracted to my
product because the style choices posed by the artists aren't too
extreme and are relatable to 'Rahs' and 'Makers'.
 Artists of this genre tend to be played on BBC
Radio 1 which also features a variety of other
genres, so Radio 1 listeners tend to be open to
lots of types of music. These artists are also
likely to feature at festivals such as Reading
and Leeds, Coachella, V and T in the park. The
type of shops these people would get their
clothes from would be most high street shops
such as Topshop, River Island, All Saints etc as
well as online shops like Boohoo and ASOS.
 The outfits displayed from the artists below
aren’t extravagant or difficult to find and can
easily be pulled off by the general public.
When designing my magazine, I took into
account the styles of other bands in that genre,
their styles and their target audience to apply
to my own band.
 Lucy Kind, age 17, Aries
 Interests: dancing, shopping, going
to live gigs, being with friends,
listening to music, partying
 Favourite bands: Shed 7, The
Charlatans, Twenty One Pilots, The
Libertines, Years and Years,
Disclosure, Circa Waves, Saint
Raymond
 Favourite shops: Topshop, Urban
Outfitters, MAC
When in the car, Lucy tends to listen to Radio 1
or plugs her phone into the aux cord. Lucy
aspires to travel the world and become a dance
teacher to follow through her love of dance.
Lucy tends to go to festivals and gigs often
(once a month-ish). Lucy enjoys a variety of
music but prefers Indie/ Indie Pop bands
because pop isn’t quite her cup of tea. Lucy fits
the criteria of my target audience because she
is stylish, enjoys the Indie Pop/ Electronica
genre of music and goes to live events on a
regular basis. Lucy comes on the lower end of
the age range that my magazine is aimed at
due to the majority of this genres fans being
toward the lower end; nonetheless, people
almost 30 years old aren’t to be ignored.
