A masthead has been used in order to create a
sense of brand recognition. This has been done
through the use of the colour red, this colour has
connotations of strength and anger which directly
relates to the target audience as this is a teenage
magazine. The masthead has also been put at the
top of the magazine this has been done so that it
is easy to be seen by a consumer. Despite this the
masthead has been put in a text bubble, this helps
to establish a sense of brand identity as it makes
the magazine different to the rest. In relation to
Ricard Dyers Utopian theory this offers my
audience energy as it offers the something
different solving the social tension of exhaustion
from the same form of magazine being printed
repeatedly.
Cover Stories; my magazine has a large Varity of
cover stories this is because they have a teenage
audience even though they are older teenagers
they need more Varity in order to keep the
audience interested. In relation to Dyer’s Utopian
Theory this sells the audience abundance this is
because is solves the social tension of scarcity as
it is making sure that the audience has enough to
spare. It also relates to intensity, this is because it
almost bombards the audience with stories which
solves the social tension of dreariness.
Buzz Words; In my magazine words such as ‘exclusive’ have been used in order
to make the audience feel as if they are getting a product that they could not
get anywhere else. This intern makes the target audience more inclined to by it.
In relation to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs this relates to love and
belongingness this is as it makes the audience feel special and as if the
magazine is ‘exclusively’ for them all may also relate to esteem for this same
reason as it sells the reader the idea that they are importance.
Barcode; My magazine has a barcode,
this is done for retail purposes for
example as it lets the company keep
track of stock. This also can relate to
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, this is as it
sells the audience safety needs, as the
use of the barcode also helps the
audience to identify that the magazine is
legitimate.
Web Address; This magazine has included the website address link, this has been done
as the target audience is older teenagers who are stereotypically very technologically
orientated. This is an example of cross media convergence. In relation to Dyer’s Utopian
theory this solves the social tension of fragmentation and replaces it with the utopian
solution of community, this is as the target audience is able to relate to the use of
technology and it makes them feel more connected to the magazine.
Main Cover Story; The main cover story in
this magazine is ‘Interview With Kelsie I – I
really toned down all of the sexual stuff
there was no need for me to do it’ the use
of the cover story directly relates to the
target audience, this because older
teenage girls as older teenage girls are
stereotypically known to be finding
themselves and the media is full of sexual
images and videos that may influence
them. This cover story almost makes my
artist seem like the type of person to look
up to . This story relates to the idea of
identity in the Uses and Gratifications
Theory. This is because the target audience
can see themselves in the media. As the
story is relatable and shows that even
celebrities such as Kelsie go through
similar issues to themselves.
Image: this image is a close up
where she covers most of the page
showing how important she is
which links directly to the genre of
the magazine.. She is also wearing
makeup which links to the male
gaze theory as it shows that a
women is a construction that it
made for he gaze of the
heterosexual male.
Features: there are multiple
features on the contents page of
the magazine. This has been done
to offer my target audience more
choice which would make them
more likely to buy it if there is a
variety. In relation to Richard
Dyer’s utopian theory this solves
the social tension of scarcity and
replaces it with abundance. As
they are not scarce for choice.
Magazine Logo: the magazine logo is at the bottom right hand corner of
the magazine. This helps to create a sense of brand identity and make
the audience feel as if they know the brand very well. Which solves the
utopian theory of isolation and replaces it with community. This is as
my audience feels like they are part of the brand.
Main story: The main story is
separate from the rest of the
features. This is as so they it stands
out to my target audience and
gives them something to look
forward to. It helps them to easily
find the main story offering them
esteem needs in relation to
Maslow's hierarchy of needs as
they feel like the magazine has
been tailored to make it easier for
them.
Magazine slogan The magazine
slogan is on the top right hand corner
of the magazine. This is to make my
brand recognisable. It also really is
the Uk’s number one which solves
the social tension dishonesty and
replaces it with transparency as m
audience is offered the truth.
Title: The title is done in a bold sans serif font. This has been done in
order to show case its importance. The use of the colour red to
outline the image also helps to give a clear theme to the magazine
offering my target audience safety needs in relation to Maslow’s
hierarchy of needs as the audience feels safe in knowing that the
magazine all links.
Pull quote: This pull quote has been taken directly from the front cover this
helps to show the audience that they have been promised on the front cover.
This offers my target audience transparency as they feel like they are getting
the truth
Variety of images there
are a lot of images on the
double page spread. This
is as it helps my audience
clearly see who the
magazine is about. This
offers the audience
abundance in relation to
Dyer’s utopian theory as
they are given a lot of
choice.
Sub headings; There are
many subheadings on
the double page spread
of my magazine. This has
been done in order to
split up the different
questions. This offers the
audience safety needs as
it makes it a lot clear and
easier to read.
Layout in columns; This is as It makes it a lot easier to read as it is more
unified and clear. This is also a very stereotypical convention of a
interview for a double page spread. This idea of following normal
conventions offers my target audience safety needs in relation to
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs as they recognise this convention and feel
comfortable with it.
Drop capitals; This has
been used in order to
clearly show where the
magazine article starts.
This offers my target
audience an sense of love
and belonging as they feel
like the magazine has been
made in a way which is
easiest for them.
First stand: the use of
the first stand to explain
who the artist is helps
my audience to get
some background
knowledge even if they
do not directly know
who she is. This offers
the audience
transparency in relation
to Dyer’s utopian
theory this is as they
feel as if them know the
truth about her.
