What have you learnt about the
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
During the production of my magazine I used a range of technologies to reach
my final product. Throughout this process I have learned more about how to
use them to improve my magazine.
I used the following technologies:
-Cannon 600D
-Lighting
-Adobe Photoshop cs3
-Internet explorer (such as Google and blogger)
-Microsoft PowerPoint
-Iphone
I used this canon SLR camera to take the images for my magazine which was a
significant part of my final product. By using a SLR camera it meant that i could
see the photographs instantly after I had taken them meaning that it was easy to
see what aspects I needed to change/adapt such as lighting to make my mage
better. The camera also had a large memory which meant I could take many
photos and decide in the future what images to select to use.
Throughout the production I have learned many a thing about this camera
including many universal functions such as ISO, aperture and iris and this
allowed me to get the best outcome.
I used this lighting to get better lit photography, however this was not available
for all my images, so some I had to use my own variation of bright lighting at
home to try and create the same affect. I tried to use this for at least some of my
images as I decided artificial lighting would be the best outcome of shots for my
magazine.
Using the lighting was fairly easy, however I required guidance to get the
position of them correct. I decided I wanted a high key lighting as previous
images I had taken at home had created difficulty in editing due to the quality of
low lighting, there fore I used a layout where by the lights were at either side at
the front of the white screen shining down upon it. High key lighting produced a
more professional look, which was a convention I found out through research,
and I wish I had been able to use this for all my images taken but due to
convince of the model I used, weekends were only available and so I didn’t
have access to the lights.
I used Adobe Photoshop to adjust the images I took before inserting them into
my magazine, by using this programme I learnt how to manipulate images by
adjusting contrast and brightness. I also used Photoshop to add text, eliminate
shadow and create my whole production. I learned how to use this programme
from previous experience and experimenting with tools.
The photos below are an example of using Photoshop to adjust the contrast and
lighting of the image to make a better outcome.
I used internet explorer to conduct my research into codes and conventions
before the production of my magazine which helped me during the process of it.
I also used the internet to continuously update my progression onto blogger,
which I learnt a lot about through such frequent use and it meant I could them
adapt the layout of my blog making the process of using it much more easy and
organisational. The use of blogger would have been much more difficult had it
have been a handwritten thing and not recorded on technology.
I used my Iphone 5s to keep in contact with my focus group through text to
gather their opinions on certain aspects of my magazine. I also used my phone
to email myself research I had found through use of my phone.
The use of convergence in this piece of technology has meant that I could email
and communicate in one device which made the production process quicker
and easier.
I used Microsoft power point during my research to co-ordinate the common
codes and conventions of music magazines, I decided to put it in a power point
to make a clear and organised showing of my research in a concise format
which means it was easy to refer to at a later date.
The use of technology has played a big part in helping along my production
process and actually creating my final pieces. Without the use of the
technologies I have previously talked about, my final product would be very
different and less professional of a much lower standard.
Technologies have not only made my product more presentable but also resulted
in my work being in a organised manner with clear research and planning.
Without this my work would not show these skills.
I was already familiar with these technologies for I have used them before
producing the construction therefore I learned a lot about them along the way.
