EVALUATION, QUESTION
ONE
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR
CHALLENGED FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA
PRODUCTS?I believe that my media product follows the codes and conventions of
a real media product in many ways. We researched many horror films
to make sure we understood the traits of the films and this would
help us portray and challenge the horror genre. On this PowerPoint I
am going to be showing you 9 key screen shots from my film and
how we used, developed or challenged the codes and conventions of
a real media product.
SCREENSHOT 1
This is my first screenshot, it is the title of the film. I
think it follows the codes and conventions of a horror
film because of the name, because called ‘The Haunting’
would only fit with the horror genre because being
haunted is associated with things like ghosts and
paranormal things. I didn’t want to make the title to
complicated, I thought having it very plain on just a dark
background is very simple.
SCREENSHOT 2 AND 3
This second and third screenshots are the
location in which my film was set, in a big
old fashioned house. Because there is lots
of trees around it makes the house look
isolated. This is typical of a horror film
because normally the house being isolated
makes the protagonist look vulnerable
because they aren’t protected from the
antagonist.
SCREENSHOT 4
This is my 4th screenshot I chose, I like this shot
because it shows we are using a different
camera angles. Another reason why I chose it
was because it looks as if someone is watching
her but she doesn’t realise, which gives makes it
more creepy for the audience.
SCREENSHOT 5
This is my 5th shot, I like this
shot because it is at this part in
the opening sequence when it
starts to become more like a
horror film, because it is in black
and white and there isn’t a lot of
lighting you cant really see the
persons face, which makes it
creepy and you can tell that this
person is the antagonist
SCREENSHOT 6
I like this shot because it can
make the audience ask a lot
of questions, why is the
person led in the dirt? Have
they been killed and if so who
or what by? Another reason I
like it is because of the text
message, it kind of tells the
story and shows that the
daughter is coming home to
see her parents.
SCREENSHOT 7 AND 8
A reason why I chose both these shots
together is because I want to show the
way I used the credits, I stuck to a simple
back background with simple white
writing because I didn’t want to
overcomplicate the titles because I have
used effects on them. As you can see
from these two screenshots the writing
fades on and off of the screen, I thought
this was a good idea and would make the
titles not too boring but not too
complicated.
SCREENSHOT 9
I chose this screenshot because I
think this is part of the film the
audience will find really exciting to
watch because the protagonist is
unaware that the antagonist is
watching them. In this scene we also
used only natural lighting because we
don’t want to reveal the antagonists
face and because they are quite far
away from the camera it is hard to
see them.
