Caroline Young was born in Hong Kong and studied watercolor painting under the master Lam Oi Char. She learned traditional Chinese art forms from her teacher but chose to paint in watercolor, acrylic, and gouache. While her Japanese themes brought her fame, in her paintings Caroline Young wanted to pay homage to her great-grandparents who immigrated to Hawaii from China.
