Revolutions-Compromise The crown worked out a compromise in between imperial power and colonial Colonies and mother countries became intertwined and dependent on each other in trade  Taxes in trade heightened and the colonies had to take a stand
Revolutions- Men and Money King William of England went to war with France. The English had to spend a lot of money building a larger army and Navy to compete with France. This caused a massive increase in taxes The English fought the Nine Years War and built a fiscal-military state
The Atlantic-News By 1730 ships arrived from England more frequently with letters and newspapers. Colonists felt more informed about events happening in Europe Newspapers in the colonies addressed the merchant community
The Atlantic-Trade Trade became very complex A multilateral trading system was used to exchange goods Tobacco and Sugar were shipped to England Fish, provisions, and lumber were shipped to the West Indies
Awakenings-Revivals “ Revivals”-surges in fervor and new members Emphasized the emotional process of conversion that changed sinners into saints Ministers preached  “soul-searching” sermons These “awakenings” appealed emotionally to the audience, such fear and Hope
The Great Plains-Genizaros In the 17 th  the Spanish commandeered the Pueblo people by founding a Colony Genizaros were 'detribalized' captives of the Nomads and labored as ranch or domestic laborers After 1740 freed genizaros formed communities and obtain land on the frontier margin
Imperial Wars and Crisis-  Indian Rebellions Indians couldn't maintain their independence any longer. Most colonists had cheated and abused the Indians In 1759 Cherokee warriors killed 30 settlers, which encouraged other rebellions To avoid war British military gave the Indians presents and created long term relationships and allies
The Pacific-Alta California In the1760's the Spanish Crown ordered the colonization of California Alta California had diverse weather conditions as well as great Indian cultural diversity The Spanish regarded California as a wilderness
The Pacific-Nootka Captain Cook explored the sea along the coast of Northern America While exploring Cook found that there were many Natives on the coasts spoke different languages and had different cultures Cook traded on the coast of Nootka were the Natives had a “hard bargain”  Nootka became a common trading group
