This document discusses open innovation ecosystems and provides examples of existing ecosystems. It describes open ecosystems as environments that develop collaboration between stakeholders to produce and manage shared resources through experimentation and consensus building. It notes that ecosystems connect different types of stakeholders and share mutualized and open resources. Principles of efficient ecosystems include being action-oriented, inclusive and transparent relationships, and decentralization. Examples of existing open innovation ecosystems in different industries are provided, such as Eclipse Foundation, HyperLedger, Linux Foundation, and Apollo.auto. Metrics on the size and impact of some ecosystems like OpenStack, FabMob and HyperLedger are also summarized.
