  Soft low keylighting and calm music encourage the audience to see the ‘relationship’ in a positive way. This contrast with the use of harsh jump cuts and sinister music when the male character is introduced we are supposed to view Maudes anti-social desire for the finger smith more positively than an arranged marriage.

  The use ofdramatic music matched along with fast paced camera movement synced with the action creates tension and distress with the audience. The fast tracking shot paralleled with the calm still reflection of the lake, creates juxtaposition as the scene was takes a very fast turn from being peaceful to intense.

  In this mediumclose up two shot the two sexes are displayed, the male is shown as dominant and overpowering looking down on the female whilst the female being weak and vulnerable. The camera stays still to create an almost breathless atmosphere to build tension. The out of focus background emphasises the two characters in shot.

  This is atwo shot, although The camera shot in this scene is focused on the gloved hand outlining the body shape of the woman lying on the bed, the woman outlying her body isn't being focused on much. This represents the intensity of her desire for the finger smith yet could also suggest the restrictions and in normality of her sexual desire when put into the context of the era they're living in and unconventionality of a same sex relationship despite it being normal for two women to share a bed during that time period.
