Tell me in no more than20 words, what is your
FMP idea?
My FMP idea is tocreate an issue of a feminist,
well-being magazine thataddressesmodern day
issues.
Why have youdecided to makeit? I havedecided tomake this magazinebecause in
my previous FMP I made a similar project, a
feminism fanzine/magazine all aboutmodernday
issuesincluding a range of photography,
animationsandarticles.
I want to create a magazinethat normalises
mental health issuesandfeminism and gives
people a platform to talk aboutthingsor an
excuse to escape reality andread the magazine,
containingrelatable articles andemotive series of
photographsthatthereader will connectwith. I
think it is importantbecausethere are no
feminist/well-being magazines in the public eye
for teens or youngadults and givingthem an
opportunity toreadaboutit will educate them on
the matters.
What aboutyourproject makesit importantto
you?
Firstly, this project is importantto me because
feminism is somethingthatI am very passionate
about. I think feminists/feminismdemandsa
wider acknowledgement, andI think people need
to understandwhatfeminism actually is because
there are so many mis-conceptionsofthe ‘theory
of feminism’ when it isn’t a theory it’s a lifestyle.
Secondly, thisproject is importantbecausehaving
hadexperienced mental health issuesfrom
people aroundme I knowthat there are very few
platformsand places that normalizeand talk
aboutmental healthissues openly. I think it’d
make a massivedifference to people being able to
accept themselves if there was a supportsystem
like a monthly magazinethere as reassurance.
Outline someof the initial influences onyour
idea/work and somepotential research targets
(remember, research isn’t justa paperbased
activity)
For my project, I have multiple influences thatare
going tohelp shape my project. For my research,
I’mplanningon visitingfeminism talks, so thatI
can listen to other women’sstoriesand hear their
side of feminism, so thatI can appreciate the
variety of different experiences womenhave gone
throughandhow thathas changedtheir insight
on life andtheir perspective onfeminism.

I also planon conductinga lot of online research
abouta range of different feminists, mental
health awareness spokesmen(actresses/actors). I
will also research different photographersand
journalistsso I can further my knowledge and
skills.
What effect do youwant to haveon your
audience when they see yourproject?
I want my audience to feel thankfulthe magazine
andI also want the audience to appreciate that
the magazine is more thanjust a tabloid
magazine. I think it’s importantfor the magazine
to standoutfrom other magazinesand makea
difference.
I also want the audience tobe movedby the
magazine, and interpret the photographsand
articles with a deeper outlook inorder to
understand.
Describe the tone/mood/styleofyourproject
[which productiontechniques/characteristicsare
youemploying?]
I want the tone of my magazinesto follow the
structure/styleof a fanzine. Witha fanzine, the
pages are put togetheras they are made, with no
real structureor consistency. So, I want my
magazine tofollow the basic structure of a
fanzine, following the randomandnon-consistent
theme. I want some pagesto be electric and
energetic butthen I want somepages to be
tranquiland calming. I want to have a mix
because I don’twantthe magazine to justbe
associatedwith dark andboring coloursthat are
subconsciously associatedwithmental illness,
however at the same time I don’twantthe
magazine tobe filled with stereotypically feminine
colourslike pink. So, I want to include a healthy
mix of both.
Why have youdecided to makeyour project in
this style?
I havedecided tofollow this theme for my project
because I want my productto follow a unique,
stand-outstyle. I think the magazinewill be more
effective andattract a wider audience if it’s unlike
other magazines. I also want to create my
magazine following this stylebecause I want my
magazine tocontradict the stereotypesthatare
associatedwith feminism andwell-being.
