Production Reflection
Tom Haase
Day 1
• Monday
• Today was the first day of production and to start I created a logo for all my products, so I can link all of them together and show that I
produced them.
• I didn’t plan to make a logo, however I thought it would be a good idea as a starter product to get into the flow of using Photoshop
again. Also it will be very useful for my products and PowerPoints.
• The image bottom right is my final logo, and all the other images show the ideas I tried before creating the final product.
• I originally liked the idea of using the same ā€˜S’ in both words of ā€˜Haase Studios’, as you can see I tried in the first three ideas. However
out of these ideas I didn’t like the final appearance, as I thought it looked quite unprofessional. I tried different fonts, such as ā€˜The Real
Magazine’ (Image 1) and used the Character editing tools to space the letters out, so the larger ā€˜S’ could fit both words. Image 2 shows
the fonts of ā€˜Phosphate Inline’ (the ā€˜S’) and ā€˜Painterz Regular’ (the rest of the text). After reflecting on it after completion, the use of
two different fonts in the same word didn’t look as aesthetically pleasing as I had hoped, however I did like the link of the two ā€œSā€™ā€
being of the same font. I did not like the ā€˜Painterz Regular’ font because it looked too sketch-like in my opinion and I wanted something
that could be applied to all types of products, therefore something more simple. For Image 3, I decided to see how it looked using the
same font for both words (ā€˜Painterz Regular’) and again, I didn’t like the appearance of this, possibly due to the font look too childish
and unprofessional, when applied to all the letters.
• Because I thought the first three ideas looked unprofessional I created my final product with a simple style, so it can apply and ā€˜fit in’
with all of my products and PowerPoints. At first I wanted to add a bit of colour to the logo, but instead decided to get rid of the yellow
haze around the ā€˜HS’, making the logo look more simple and able to be applied to all backgrounds. Another way I improved Image 4 to
create Image 5 (the finished logo) was removing the white colours from the logo and changing it to a transparent space, therefore it can
be applied to any background and still work. For the space behind the ā€˜STUDIOS’ I used the Polygonal Tool to remove a section of the
ā€˜S’. I think this has worked effectively because you can still see that the letter is an ā€˜S’, even though it is not fully attached, which is
called Closure, a branding technique.
• I don’t think this logo needs improving now because I have edited it and spent a lot of time on it and I am pleased with what I have
created.
• Tomorrow I will start on my film cover. My first job will be to look through and choose the best photos I have taken of my model and
decided how I will be editing the imagery and work on colours and layouts afterwards. I believe this won’t be a very difficult job
because I know how I want my cover to look, however the photos may not have turned out exactly as I planned, meaning I either
potentially need to change the idea of effects or take more photos with my model.

Day 2
• Wednesday
• Today was the first day of creating my film cover and to start, I quickly experimented with a design idea I
recently saw on a YouTube video, however after starting it and reflecting mid-creation I didn’t not like its
appearance aesthetically and technically because the proportions of the character’s mouth didn’t look well
ā€˜liquefied’. Also this design made the character look far too demonic and possessed, which wasn’t my intention
for my character, therefore I decided to follow a new tutorial on YouTube for a significant facial feature design.
• This led me onto the sewn mouth design which I am very pleased about at the moment. Image 2 shows how I
used the ā€˜Liquefy tool’ (Image 3) to remove the model’s lips and make the mouth look stuck together. This tool
was fairly easy to use and wasn’t too complicated, meaning I didn’t need much experience to use it and I think I
used it very well, as the model’s image has been edited what looks to be professionally. Then using the ā€˜Patch
tool’ (Image 4) I made his mouth look more realistic, as this tool allowed me to patch the areas I liquefied
unevenly. Although I don’t think I used this tool very well as I couldn’t manage to make the patching look even
(however I improved it). This means I will have to look at this aspect at a later stage and work on it.
• Then using the ā€˜Brush tool’ which I am very confident with I drew on the stiches and scars with different colours
of reds and whites (as the tutorial described) and lowered the opacity on certain areas to make it look more
realistic (for example the white colour for the scarring). I am very happy with what I have created so far with
the sewn mouth effect and believe it will turn out very well and looking professional.
• Image 5 and 6 show what I ended with for today and this is pleasing for me because I feel I have made great
progress today. As I stated in my research and planning, the imagery on my film cover will be the main focal
point and will the most important aspect of my product, therefore I want to make it look very realistic,
professional, scary and overall aesthetically pleasing, which I think it is on track for.

Day 3
• Thursday
• Today I carried on with my film cover after I started yesterday. I was pleased with the sewn mouth effect I
created, so I decided to improve the imagery even more, adding a scar to the killer’s eye (Image 1). I did this to
continue the scary/spooky look of the character, to emphasise the horror of the film and the character, as this
shows the audience what to expect in the film. I used an image of a scar on somebody’s face and using the
ā€˜Polygonal Lasso tool’ I cut out the scar and placed it onto my model. I then blended the scar image into the
model’s face using ā€˜Image Adjustments’, such as ā€˜Exposure’ and ā€˜Hue and Saturation’. I am very pleased with
the outcome of the scar’s appearance as it looks very realistic and fits the setting/mood of the film cover
perfectly. I believe that my audience will appeal to this imagery because it is spooky and implies violence and
gore, therefore the horror fans, majority of males and people from the ages 16-24 will appeal to this, due to
their ā€˜immature’ nature.
• Moving onto the title, I was debating between ā€˜Diediedie’ (Image 2) and ā€˜Who Asks Satan’ (Image 3) for the
font, so I experimented with both. In the end I chose ā€˜Who Asks Satan’ because in my opinion it looks more
horror related, as it looks like the letters have been carved by an axe – which relates to the film/title. Whereas
the other font looked quite childish compared to the one I chose, due to the backwards letters and use of
lowercase letters, which doesn’t suit my film’s appearance.
• Because this was only a short day and I spent a lot of time working on the scar effect, I did not complete much
more production work today, however I am pleased with what I have created and believe it will be very
effective in the finished product, with all the other imagery and text aspects I will be creating/adding.
• Next week I am planning on working more on the imagery, and the use of specific colour used and also work on
the background, as this will affect the use of colour and imagery choices I have for the character because I want
them both to link/fit well together.

Day 4
• Wednesday
• I wanted to show two sides of the character’s personality in the imagery, as I described in my planning and research, so I
used a tutorial to try and portray this double personality style image. Images 1 and 2 shows an effect I tried to see how it
looked on my product, however after finishing and resulting in Image 2, I did not like the aesthetics of this so I decided to
not use this effect. However this effect was easy to create and didn’t take long, therefore I didn’t waste a lot of time in
creating it.
• Images 3 and 4 show Knavesmire Woods (the location of my second shoot). The original images were too generic and
weren’t suited to a horror theme, so using the Gaussian Blur (Image 3), I took the focus of the background by blurring it and
using Colour Balance and Exposure (Image 6) I darkened the colour of the background image, to make it look more
mysterious and so it wasn’t as bright as before. I decided to use Image for my background as I thought the appearance was
better for my character’s image. Adding the background resulted in Image 7 and I am pleased with the outcome of this,
however I still needed to make my character more involved with the background as in Image 7 he looks too ā€˜placed on’.
• To make the character more involved with the background I used the Brush tool on a low opacity and brushed around the
edge of the character on a layer behind him. Again I am pleased with how it turned out because in my opinion, it makes the
character fit in more. On the other hand I still believe that I can make the character look as if he is there a lot more, although
I need to figure out how to do this, which will be a task for tomorrow.
• Also using the Colour Adjustments I improved the axe’s appearance, using Colour Balance and Hue and Saturation, to make
it look more metallic instead of the plastic look it had before. I also used the Sharpen Filter to make the metal part of the axe
stand out more. Then finally I added the text back onto the cover, adding a slight drop shadow behind it to make it more
visible.
• Overall I am pleased with the work I have done today, however there is still a lot more I need to do before I start on another
product. At the moment I think that my cover is starting to look similar to the Friday The 13th cover, which I was using an
existing product and wanted to follow certain aspects of, such as the wooded area as the background location and making it
less noticeable than the character in the front (which I have done with the Gaussian Blur.

Day 5
• Thursday
• Today I didn’t have a lot of time to work on my product so I didn’t complete very much, which isn’t very
pleasing for me, as I want to be ahead of schedule.
• Using the film cover of The Conjuring 2 (Image 6) as inspiration I added taglines to my front cover. I started
with a quote to entice the viewers. I ended up choosing with the quote ā€œkeep quiet, you’re safeā€, which in
my opinion, is quite contradictory and very spooky, which brings a lot of mystery and fear to the audience
and the film, which is exactly what I wanted, so I am pleased with the quote I chose. Although the problem
I am facing with this feature is the aesthetics of it, rather than its technical qualities. As you can see from
Image 2 I experimented with the quote at the top of the page in large white font. Thanks to my planning I
am satisfied with the font choice (Image 3), however the colour and positioning do not appeal to me.
Image 5 then shows how I repositioned it and changed the colour to red to link with the title’s colour. I like
the positioning and the colour, however I think it stands out too much compared to the title, which I do
not want, therefore next week I will be working to improve this.
• Then moving onto my second tagline of my film cover, as The Conjuring 2 features, I wanted to include a
ā€˜from the makers of’. I found a font that is very similar to the professional product’s font (Image 4) and I
am really pleased with the aesthetics of this font, as it looks very professional whilst still linking to the
horror theme. You can see how this looks at the top of the page in Image 5. the only problem I face with
this feature is the first letter of the tagline ā€œfā€, which should be a capital ā€˜F’ to be grammatically correct,
however I like the aesthetics much better with a lowercase ā€˜f’ it makes the ā€œfā€ stand out a lot less, which is
what I want because I don’t want emphasis or attention being brought to the extra words of this tagline,
only the names of the films, which is the important bit which entices the audience. The tagline reads
ā€œfrom the makers of CAUGHT and THE HAPPENINGā€.

Day 6
• Monday
• Image 2 shows the taglines I included on my film cover using the font ā€œCharlemagne Std Boldā€ and ā€œWoodcutter Drippingā€,
which I started working on last week. In my opinion I think this feature makes my cover appear much more professional and
intriguing because the font is the same or very similar to what professional film covers usually use and the text is displayed
clearly, contrasting with my background, making it stand out and easily readable, therefore I am very pleased with these
features I have added. As you can see in Image 3, I have also edited the tagline ā€œkeep quiet, you’re safeā€, by making it much
smaller, changing the colour to a more faded red and lowering the opacity slightly. I believe this has been an improvement
because now it is still readable but it is no longer a focal point of the film cover, which is how I wanted it to appear.
• I then created the bind’s title, as you can see in Image 1. To do this I duplicated the original title and cut out each word so I
could reposition them to fit in a line (as they do). I wanted to do this to make it look more professional because all
professional film covers include their title on the front cover and the side cover, so you can see it from both front and side.
• I haven’t finished the side cover of my film yet, as I still want to include a production logo and age rating etc. but I will do
that at a later stage, as I want to start on my back cover and see which is the most important information out of everything,
which will be the information that I shall include on my side cover.
• Image 4 shows the progress I have made with my back cover, however the credit section at the bottom is not my work. I
have included this as a template I will be following for my own and wanted to use it to help with structure and sizing of
text/images etc.
• I have copied over the blurb I wrote in my planning onto my back cover, however at the moment I am not impressed with
its appearance and I will be improving this at a later date. To improve this I believe I will need to choose a more suitable
font (horror related for example), enlarge it (to make it easier to read/see) and I have an idea of bending it around an image
to show off my skills and make the text and images link well together, which they do not do at the moment. The only image
I have included so far is one of the main character, however again I shall be improving this at a later date. To do so, I may
give it a hinted red or black tint (to fit with the colour scheme better) and do the same for the other images I will be
including.
• I am looking forward to seeing how these improvement ideas work because I believe my product will benefit from them
greatly, by appealing to the audience a lot more than my product does now.

Day 7
• Wednesday
• Today I worked on my credits section of the back cover of my film. Image 1 shows the template from the
professional product ā€˜The Conjuring’ I am using to follow as a guide. Image 2 shows the progress I have
made on the credits. I am not very pleased with the amount of work I have produced today as it doesn’t
look like very much, however it took quite a while to arrange the text to look similar to the professional
product’s text.
• To edit the text to look like the text from Image 1 I used the tools that are shown in Image 3. I first changed
the height of the text, to get the stretched look. I then edited the width of the text to allow it to fit
appropriately and look similar to the professional product. I changed the size of certain words in the credit
to match Image 1, which wasn’t difficult, however the words such as ā€˜by’ and ā€˜producer’ were difficult to
include because they were placed underneath the smaller sized text (as shown in a close up on Image 4).
To overcome this problem I used a separate text layer and moved and adjusted the words to fit accordingly
and I believe this has worked out well, with the appearance looking very professional.
• Overall I am pleased with the content I have creative, however the amount of conduct I have created is
disappointing, as I have only created a basic outline and the text for my credit section. This means I will be
working on this section of my product again tomorrow. On the other hand I would rather my product be
more detailed and look more professional and take a longer time to create than to create something that
looks very amateur because not enough time was spent on it.
• I still haven’t fully completed my planning section because I believe that I can include more detail,
however I don’t think this will affect my production massively, because I have completed the main and
important sections of my planning. I will be working on my planning, adding more detail, at home in my
own time, therefore no time will be taken out of my production time, meaning it likely won’t cause
disruption of my product.
Day 7

Day 8
• Monday
• Today was the first day of the week and over the weekend I noticed many film covers had their taglines in full capital letters, however I
didn’t think that this would look good on my product, however I hadn’t tried it, so I did today. Images 1,2 and 3 show the different
appearances of the tagline I have at the top of my film cover. In my opinion my original text layout (Image 1) looks best, however this
isn’t the typical look for a professional product, therefore this might make my product look less professional, which is why I am still
debating which layout to use. This means that this section of my product is still unfinished, which I am not very pleased about,
considering the time I have had so far.
• After this, I decided to improve the side of the cover before carrying on with my credit section. As you can see in Image 4 I changed the
layout slighting, by positioning my company logo at the top (after looking at more professional film covers) and I also added the DVD
logo and the 18 rating to make it look more professional. I added the barcode later on after deciding it wasn’t going to fit on my back
cover, however I still think the appearance is aesthetically pleasing and I am happy with the look of it.
• Image 5 shows the finished section of the credits. This took a lot of time to create, however I am pleased with it because there is a lot of
detail shown and although it is not a main aspect of my product, it still shows the effort I have put in and makes my product look a lot
more professional. The hardest task for me when creating the credit section was the layout of the boxes and logos. I used a professional
product’s credit section as inspiration and their box’s were not equal to each other as the amount of information for each box varied,
therefore mine had to as well, making it difficult to fit all the box’s on equally, in-line with the other features in the credits (such as the
logos etc.).
• Moving onto Image 6, I have not finished my back cover yet, however I believe I have made a lot of progress with it today. For the
images I used ā€˜Image Adjustments’ to edit the colours of them, using ā€˜Desaturation’ and ā€˜Hue and Saturation’ with ā€˜Colourize’ (Image 7).
Using these tools/effects I changed the colour to a low saturated red, to give the back a bit of a red/black colour scheme. I then added
the location image in a green colour to give the overall look a bit of a colour splash so everything wasn’t too ordinary. The original photo
of this location was square with sharp edges, so to give it the faded look it has I used the ā€˜Elliptical Marquee tool’ and selected a circular
area of the image, then used ā€˜Feather’, the ā€˜Modify’ effect to make a faded selection (Image 8), which I am happy about.
• Overall Image 9 is what I have finished with for today and as I mentioned in the last two production days I wasn’t very happy with the
amount of work I had produced, I believe today I have produced much more, which is a big improvement. I was able to finish the credit
section and make a good start on the back cover’s imagery and text. I am still yet to complete it however, because it does not look
professional enough for me, as I need to fill the empty spacing on the back cover which I could either do with a faded border and blood
dripping possibly, but I have not yet decided exactly how I will do this. I will work on this on my next production day and I believe I can
finish this product by the end of the week, which would be very helpful considering I am finishing for Easter after this week.

Day 9
• Wednesday
• Today I was sharpening up my back cover and making it look for professional. There was too much empty space on the back cover and
the blurb looked too ā€˜placed on’ and didn’t look like it was apart of the cover, so I decided this was the first place to start today. Using
the shift key on all the image layers, I enlarged all the images on the back cover together, to fill more of the empty space. I then
enlarged the top and bottom model separately to make them look a similar size to the middle model, which I think has made the group
of images look very connected. I then enlarged the image of the location and the image of the model on the far right together, as these
also looked very ā€˜out of place’ now next to the other images.
• After changing the sizes of and slight positioning of them, I believe this has improved my back cover greatly, and I am pleased with it
and it has left me a good amount of space to fit my blurb into efficiently. Image 1 shows how the text looks with the editing I made to it,
which was using the ā€˜Pen tool’ (Image 2) to create a selection path of my choice, around the images and then using the ā€˜Text tool’ I just
added the my blurb into this selection path. This now links the images to the text a lot more, instead of block images and text placed on
the cover. i am not very happy with the actual text however, as I think it still needs improving. I am happy with the layout of it, although
the colours and/or sizing may need to change. I also want to add dripping blood or something similar to this, coming off the text area,
so it doesn’t stand out as much as it does because I want the images to tell the story and stand out more than the blurb does (which
would make it look a lot more professional).
• Finally after editing the imagery and text size and positioning, it has left an open space between them and the credits, which looks
unfinished. To fill this I am thinking of including a tagline for example, a small amount of text to intrigue the viewer after reading the
story. Although, I am struggling to think of the text to include here at the moment, but I will be working on this tomorrow, and believe I
will be able to finish my whole film cover (front, side and back) tomorrow as I don’t have a huge amount to complete. This pleases me
as I can then move onto a new product on my next production week, therefore I will have more time to work on them.
• Image 3 compared to Image 4 shows the progress I have made on my back cover today, which I am fairly happy about, although I could
have completed more work if I put more effort in or worked harder, as this would have allowed more time for my to work.
• Overall I believe I am slightly behind my production schedule, as we have around 3-4 weeks left of production on this project and I
haven’t yet finished my first product. On the other hand I have included a lot more detail in this product than I anticipated and planned
for, which is good because it is my main product and the first product people will see when I present my work.
Day 9

3 4
Day 10
• Thursday
• Today I believe I have finished my film cover until I receive feedback from others to see what my target audience would think about my
product and see which aspects I could improve.
• Firstly I changed the texture of the character’s face, as before it looked unnatural and very misplaced. Image 1 shows what it looked like
before and Image 2 shows what I changed it to. I used many different tools to get the final image of the face texture. Firstly I changed
the blending mode to ā€˜Overlay’ to make it look part of the character’s image. I used the ā€˜Warp tool’ to make it the rough shape of the
face. Then using the ā€˜Smudge tool’ I spread the image to all the spaces the warp couldn’t reach, so there wasn’t any empty spaces on
his face. Next I used the ā€˜Eraser tool’ on low opacity around the edges of the image to make it blend in with his face and make it look
more realistic, which I think it does. Finally I used different ā€˜Image Adjustments’ to make it darker, less contrasting and less exposed.
After completing this I am very happy with how it looks now, compared to the appearance of it before. In my opinion it looks a lot more
realistic and effective.
• Image 3 is the conclusion I have come to with the controversy of using a capital ā€˜F’ or a lower case ā€˜f’ in the tagline at the top of the
cover. Although I liked the appearance of the lower case ā€˜f’ more, I couldn’t find an existing product that displays their text in this way,
therefore my product wouldn’t look as professional and I wouldn’t be able to justify my choice with an existing product. I also didn’t like
the way the capital ā€˜F’ looked very emphasised and stand-out. So to overcome this I converted the text layer into a rasterized image
layer and using the ā€˜Eraser tool’ I removed parts of the dripping features on the ā€˜F’, which made it look smaller, and more like the
lowercase ā€˜f’. This meant I was able to be grammatically correct and keep the similar appearance I wanted for the tagline.
• I mentioned yesterday that I wanted the fill the empty space between the credits and the images on the back cover so I decided to fill it
with another tagline ā€œdon’t watch it aloneā€, as shown in Image 4. I also used this tagline as another feature to follow the red colour
scheme on the back, which as you can see I did. Because I made the text colour of this tagline red, I decided to change the ā€œAxe Of
Kindnessā€ colour to white (in the blurb), however to keep it standing out I changed it to bold, capital letters, which I think looks very
effective.
• Overall, as I said, I believe I have finished my film cover for the time being, until I receive feedback. Image 5 shows the final product I
have ended with and in my opinion I think it looks very professional and I am very pleased with what I have created. Although I think
there may be certain aspect, that I like, that others will not like, therefore I would need to change it, to appeal to the target audience.
After the holidays or during them, I will start to work on my advertising poster for this film, which will be my second product, however I
don’t think that product will take as long as this product I have just finished.

Day 11
• Monday
• Today I worked on my film logo that I will include on my merchandise and as a logo on its
own. For the text (the film title) in the middle of the logo I duplicated the image from my film
cover (Image 3), therefore they are exactly the same. Then for the axe silhouette behind it, I
found an image from Google and created a workpath of the image’s outline using the ā€˜Pen
tool’ and then coloured in the selected area inside the workpath in black using the ā€˜Paint
bucket tool’. I then used various types of erasers around the edge of the axe, to give it a
rigged and faded look, which it has. All of this you can see in Image 1. The difference I made
in Image 2 was adding a grey colour behind the text because the outer glow that was
originally on the text did not show up against the axe image for some reason, which I don’t
know. This improved it because it made the text stand out against the black background,
making it easier to read and giving it more emphasis against the axe image.
• I am fairly happy with the logo I have created, however I believe that this is not finished and
there are still ways in which I can improve it, although at the moment I am unaware of what
these improvements could be. I will be using the mid-production peer feedback, in a few
days, as an opportunity to receive advice for how I can improve my logo.
Day 11

Day 12
• Wednesday
• Today I used a YouTube tutorial to create an effective text effect for my film poster. This text effect
included a dripping blood effect from the letters that appeared to have been smeared on a surface using
blood. As you can tell from this description alone, the imagery suits my theme/style perfectly, as its as if
the killer created this with the blood from his victims. The tutorial I followed was fairly easy to understand,
as it was explained well and clear. The most important steps in the creation of this effect were the
blending modes, which were very easy to work with, making the whole creation quite simple, even though
it may look complex. I am very pleased with the outcome of the text effect I created, as it looks very
realistic, as shown in Image 1.
• After completing the text effect I then moved onto to creating the imagery (Image 4). Using the Fibonacci
Spiral I planned and researched with/about I wanted to add the imagery above and next to the text. Using
the blending mode ā€˜Overlay’ (Image 2) I made the image blend into the texture and colour of the
background wall that the text was created on. I then used the ā€˜Eraser tool’ (Image 3) to erase the left side
of the model’s face and as I got closer to the right side I lowered the opacity of the eraser so it faded away
rather than a sharp line that shows exactly where it was cut. I then did the same for the image of the
killer’s axe, using the same blending mode and erasing technique.
• I am pleased with this creation, as it only took me one working day to complete, meaning I worked a lot
faster/harder compared to the usual working day which I am happy about. I think that I have shown
excellent Photoshop skills throughout this poster and think it looks very professional and will be very
effective for my film, by enticing and satisfying the audience. As a whole (Image 5), I think it will work very
well with my film cover.
Day 12

Day 13
• Thursday
• Today I worked on my logo improvements from the advice I received in my peer feedback.
• I first added more of the image around the edge of the axe image, using the ā€˜Brush tool’. In my opinion (and
the opinions of my peers), this has improved my logo greatly, as before it looked ā€˜unfinished’, as if it wasn’t
fully filled in yet, therefore now it looks more complete. I still wanted to keep the faded look on the edge of
axe, hence why I didn’t completely fill in the empty spaces. I then added blood dropping onto the bottom of
the axe, as suggested. To create this I had to think outside the box because I couldn’t find actual images of
blood dropping and couldn’t create my own imagery. So to overcome this I searched ā€˜paint dripping from a
brush’, as the texture of paint is very similar with a thick liquid appearance. I had to change the colour from
green to red using ā€˜Colour Adjustments’, to make it look like blood. I think that this now looks very realistic on
its own however after today I think that the blood doesn’t look like it’s directly dripping from the axe, which
may need to be improved at a later stage.
• After improving my logo, I then applied the logo to different merchandise templates. I chose two different
styles for the logo on the hoodies. The first style I tried was large and central (Images 2 & 4) and the second
style was small and positioned on the side of the chest. I prefer the first design style I created as the logo is
much more clear and you can see the detail more, which is more aesthetically pleasing. I used the blending
mode ā€˜Multiply’, to make the logo look printed onto the hoodies, which was a very easy editing technique and
it still looks very realistic in my opinion. I still want to create more merchandise products, however I will keep
the same design styles as I think these work very well for my product. Some merchandise examples I want to
create are hats, bags and mugs, which I will likely create in the improvements week. Overall, I am not the
most pleased with the amount of work I have created today, as I have created four merchandise products,
although on the other hand, I did work on my improvements that I was advised on by my peers.

Day 14
• Wednesday
• Today I created two posters, which I am very happy about because I have created two products in a short space of time,
which I normally do not. For the first poster I used a smoke image (Image 1) and added an image I took of my model
(Image 2) and removed the background of the model image using the ā€˜Quick Selection tool’. I then changed the blending
mode to ā€˜Multiply’, which allowed it to merge with the background smoke image as well as it does. I then used the
ā€˜Eraser tool’ (Image 6) to better blend the model into the smoke, with it resulting in Image 3. I am pleased with how
realistic this looks, as the model genuinely looks as if he was within the smoke when the image was taken. Image 4
shows the dripping blood I added to the axe, which gives it a more demonic theme/style. To achieve this appearance I
added a paint dripping image I found on Google (as I did for my logo) and changed the colour from blue to red, using
ā€˜Colour Adjustments’ and adding shadowing to make it look less like paint and more like thick, dark coloured blood.
Finally I added a tagline ā€œsilence is keyā€, which is very spooky and mysterious, enticing the viewer, wanting to find out
who this tagline applies to in the film and why the ā€˜silence is key’. I also added the film title and production logo to link
the poster to my film cover, which these features do perfectly.
• I then created my third poster for my film cover, which was created in a very short time. Although I spent very little time
creating it, I still think that this poster looks quite professional. I am disappointed because I did not screenshot my
progress throughout the creation of this poster because I forgot to do so, however I did not go through that many steps
to reach completion. The main steps I took were using the ā€˜Eraser tool’ (Image 6) to remove half of the model’s face,
using a low opacity for the erasing near the middle of the face to give it the faded style. I then used the ā€˜Brush tool’
(Image 7) to give the eyes a blacked shadowing, making him appear more scary and evil. I also used this tool on a low
opacity for the model’s teeth because they appeared to be very white compared to the rest of the image (especially after
the editing) so they stood out too much for my liking, whereas now they don’t stand out and the audience can see the
slogan I added at the top more along with the detailed imagery (the eyes).
• Overall I am satisfied with what I have created today as I have created two products in one day, which is very quick
compared to my usual work rate, and the products still look professional and aesthetically pleasing in my opinion.
• Now I have finished all of my production work for now, I will upload everything onto my website clearly, so my website
will look aesthetically pleasing and it will be easy for the examiner and my other website viewers to see/view my work.

FMP Production Reflection

  • 1.
  • 2.
Day 1 • Monday •Today was the first day of production and to start I created a logo for all my products, so I can link all of them together and show that I produced them. • I didn’t plan to make a logo, however I thought it would be a good idea as a starter product to get into the flow of using Photoshop again. However out of these ideas I didn’t like the final appearance, as I thought it looked quite unprofessional. I tried different fonts, such as ā€˜The Real Magazine’ (Image 1) and used the Character editing tools to space the letters out, so the larger ā€˜S’ could fit both words. Image 2 shows the fonts of ā€˜Phosphate Inline’ (the ā€˜S’) and ā€˜Painterz Regular’ (the rest of the text). After reflecting on it after completion, the use of two different fonts in the same word didn’t look as aesthetically pleasing as I had hoped, however I did like the link of the two ā€œSā€™ā€ being of the same font. I did not like the ā€˜Painterz Regular’ font because it looked too sketch-like in my opinion and I wanted something that could be applied to all types of products, therefore something more simple. For Image 3, I decided to see how it looked using the same font for both words (ā€˜Painterz Regular’) and again, I didn’t like the appearance of this, possibly due to the font look too childish and unprofessional, when applied to all the letters. • Because I thought the first three ideas looked unprofessional I created my final product with a simple style, so it can apply and ā€˜fit in’ with all of my products and PowerPoints. At first I wanted to add a bit of colour to the logo, but instead decided to get rid of the yellow haze around the ā€˜HS’, making the logo look more simple and able to be applied to all backgrounds. Another way I improved Image 4 to create Image 5 (the finished logo) was removing the white colours from the logo and changing it to a transparent space, therefore it can be applied to any background and still work. For the space behind the ā€˜STUDIOS’ I used the Polygonal Tool to remove a section of the ā€˜S’. I think this has worked effectively because you can still see that the letter is an ā€˜S’, even though it is not fully attached, which is called Closure, a branding technique. • I don’t think this logo needs improving now because I have edited it and spent a lot of time on it and I am pleased with what I have created. • Tomorrow I will start on my film cover. My first job will be to look through and choose the best photos I have taken of my model and decided how I will be editing the imagery and work on colours and layouts afterwards. I believe this won’t be a very difficult job because I know how I want my cover to look, however the photos may not have turned out exactly as I planned, meaning I either potentially need to change the idea of effects or take more photos with my model.
  • 3.
  • 4.
Day 2 • Wednesday •Today was the first day of creating my film cover and to start, I quickly experimented with a design idea I recently saw on a YouTube video, however after starting it and reflecting mid-creation I didn’t not like its appearance aesthetically and technically because the proportions of the character’s mouth didn’t look well ā€˜liquefied’. Also this design made the character look far too demonic and possessed, which wasn’t my intention for my character, therefore I decided to follow a new tutorial on YouTube for a significant facial feature design. • This led me onto the sewn mouth design which I am very pleased about at the moment. Image 2 shows how I used the ā€˜Liquefy tool’ (Image 3) to remove the model’s lips and make the mouth look stuck together. This tool was fairly easy to use and wasn’t too complicated, meaning I didn’t need much experience to use it and I think I used it very well, as the model’s image has been edited what looks to be professionally. Then using the ā€˜Patch tool’ (Image 4) I made his mouth look more realistic, as this tool allowed me to patch the areas I liquefied unevenly. Although I don’t think I used this tool very well as I couldn’t manage to make the patching look even (however I improved it). This means I will have to look at this aspect at a later stage and work on it. • Then using the ā€˜Brush tool’ which I am very confident with I drew on the stiches and scars with different colours of reds and whites (as the tutorial described) and lowered the opacity on certain areas to make it look more realistic (for example the white colour for the scarring). I am very happy with what I have created so far with the sewn mouth effect and believe it will turn out very well and looking professional. • Image 5 and 6 show what I ended with for today and this is pleasing for me because I feel I have made great progress today. As I stated in my research and planning, the imagery on my film cover will be the main focal point and will the most important aspect of my product, therefore I want to make it look very realistic, professional, scary and overall aesthetically pleasing, which I think it is on track for. • 6.
Day 3 • Thursday •Today I carried on with my film cover after I started yesterday. I was pleased with the sewn mouth effect I created, so I decided to improve the imagery even more, adding a scar to the killer’s eye (Image 1). I did this to continue the scary/spooky look of the character, to emphasise the horror of the film and the character, as this shows the audience what to expect in the film. I used an image of a scar on somebody’s face and using the ā€˜Polygonal Lasso tool’ I cut out the scar and placed it onto my model. I then blended the scar image into the model’s face using ā€˜Image Adjustments’, such as ā€˜Exposure’ and ā€˜Hue and Saturation’. I am very pleased with the outcome of the scar’s appearance as it looks very realistic and fits the setting/mood of the film cover perfectly. I believe that my audience will appeal to this imagery because it is spooky and implies violence and gore, therefore the horror fans, majority of males and people from the ages 16-24 will appeal to this, due to their ā€˜immature’ nature. • Moving onto the title, I was debating between ā€˜Diediedie’ (Image 2) and ā€˜Who Asks Satan’ (Image 3) for the font, so I experimented with both. In the end I chose ā€˜Who Asks Satan’ because in my opinion it looks more horror related, as it looks like the letters have been carved by an axe – which relates to the film/title. Whereas the other font looked quite childish compared to the one I chose, due to the backwards letters and use of lowercase letters, which doesn’t suit my film’s appearance. • Because this was only a short day and I spent a lot of time working on the scar effect, I did not complete much more production work today, however I am pleased with what I have created and believe it will be very effective in the finished product, with all the other imagery and text aspects I will be creating/adding. • Next week I am planning on working more on the imagery, and the use of specific colour used and also work on the background, as this will affect the use of colour and imagery choices I have for the character because I want them both to link/fit well together.
  • 7.
  • 8.
Day 4 • Wednesday •I wanted to show two sides of the character’s personality in the imagery, as I described in my planning and research, so I used a tutorial to try and portray this double personality style image. Images 1 and 2 shows an effect I tried to see how it looked on my product, however after finishing and resulting in Image 2, I did not like the aesthetics of this so I decided to not use this effect. However this effect was easy to create and didn’t take long, therefore I didn’t waste a lot of time in creating it. • Images 3 and 4 show Knavesmire Woods (the location of my second shoot). The original images were too generic and weren’t suited to a horror theme, so using the Gaussian Blur (Image 3), I took the focus of the background by blurring it and using Colour Balance and Exposure (Image 6) I darkened the colour of the background image, to make it look more mysterious and so it wasn’t as bright as before. I decided to use Image for my background as I thought the appearance was better for my character’s image. Adding the background resulted in Image 7 and I am pleased with the outcome of this, however I still needed to make my character more involved with the background as in Image 7 he looks too ā€˜placed on’. • To make the character more involved with the background I used the Brush tool on a low opacity and brushed around the edge of the character on a layer behind him. Again I am pleased with how it turned out because in my opinion, it makes the character fit in more. On the other hand I still believe that I can make the character look as if he is there a lot more, although I need to figure out how to do this, which will be a task for tomorrow. • Also using the Colour Adjustments I improved the axe’s appearance, using Colour Balance and Hue and Saturation, to make it look more metallic instead of the plastic look it had before. I also used the Sharpen Filter to make the metal part of the axe stand out more. Then finally I added the text back onto the cover, adding a slight drop shadow behind it to make it more visible. • Overall I am pleased with the work I have done today, however there is still a lot more I need to do before I start on another product. At the moment I think that my cover is starting to look similar to the Friday The 13th cover, which I was using an existing product and wanted to follow certain aspects of, such as the wooded area as the background location and making it less noticeable than the character in the front (which I have done with the Gaussian Blur.

  • 10.
Day 5 • Thursday •Today I didn’t have a lot of time to work on my product so I didn’t complete very much, which isn’t very pleasing for me, as I want to be ahead of schedule. • Using the film cover of The Conjuring 2 (Image 6) as inspiration I added taglines to my front cover. I started with a quote to entice the viewers. I ended up choosing with the quote ā€œkeep quiet, you’re safeā€, which in my opinion, is quite contradictory and very spooky, which brings a lot of mystery and fear to the audience and the film, which is exactly what I wanted, so I am pleased with the quote I chose. Although the problem I am facing with this feature is the aesthetics of it, rather than its technical qualities. As you can see from Image 2 I experimented with the quote at the top of the page in large white font. Thanks to my planning I am satisfied with the font choice (Image 3), however the colour and positioning do not appeal to me. Image 5 then shows how I repositioned it and changed the colour to red to link with the title’s colour. I like the positioning and the colour, however I think it stands out too much compared to the title, which I do not want, therefore next week I will be working to improve this. • Then moving onto my second tagline of my film cover, as The Conjuring 2 features, I wanted to include a ā€˜from the makers of’. I found a font that is very similar to the professional product’s font (Image 4) and I am really pleased with the aesthetics of this font, as it looks very professional whilst still linking to the horror theme. You can see how this looks at the top of the page in Image 5. the only problem I face with this feature is the first letter of the tagline ā€œfā€, which should be a capital ā€˜F’ to be grammatically correct, however I like the aesthetics much better with a lowercase ā€˜f’ it makes the ā€œfā€ stand out a lot less, which is what I want because I don’t want emphasis or attention being brought to the extra words of this tagline, only the names of the films, which is the important bit which entices the audience. The tagline reads ā€œfrom the makers of CAUGHT and THE HAPPENINGā€.
  • 11.
  • 12.
Day 6 • Monday •Image 2 shows the taglines I included on my film cover using the font ā€œCharlemagne Std Boldā€ and ā€œWoodcutter Drippingā€, which I started working on last week. In my opinion I think this feature makes my cover appear much more professional and intriguing because the font is the same or very similar to what professional film covers usually use and the text is displayed clearly, contrasting with my background, making it stand out and easily readable, therefore I am very pleased with these features I have added. As you can see in Image 3, I have also edited the tagline ā€œkeep quiet, you’re safeā€, by making it much smaller, changing the colour to a more faded red and lowering the opacity slightly. I believe this has been an improvement because now it is still readable but it is no longer a focal point of the film cover, which is how I wanted it to appear. • I then created the bind’s title, as you can see in Image 1. To do this I duplicated the original title and cut out each word so I could reposition them to fit in a line (as they do). I wanted to do this to make it look more professional because all professional film covers include their title on the front cover and the side cover, so you can see it from both front and side. • I haven’t finished the side cover of my film yet, as I still want to include a production logo and age rating etc. but I will do that at a later stage, as I want to start on my back cover and see which is the most important information out of everything, which will be the information that I shall include on my side cover. • Image 4 shows the progress I have made with my back cover, however the credit section at the bottom is not my work. I have included this as a template I will be following for my own and wanted to use it to help with structure and sizing of text/images etc. • I have copied over the blurb I wrote in my planning onto my back cover, however at the moment I am not impressed with its appearance and I will be improving this at a later date. To improve this I believe I will need to choose a more suitable font (horror related for example), enlarge it (to make it easier to read/see) and I have an idea of bending it around an image to show off my skills and make the text and images link well together, which they do not do at the moment. The only image I have included so far is one of the main character, however again I shall be improving this at a later date. To do so, I may give it a hinted red or black tint (to fit with the colour scheme better) and do the same for the other images I will be including. • I am looking forward to seeing how these improvement ideas work because I believe my product will benefit from them greatly, by appealing to the audience a lot more than my product does now.
  • 13.
  • 14.
Day 7 • Wednesday •Today I worked on my credits section of the back cover of my film. Image 1 shows the template from the professional product ā€˜The Conjuring’ I am using to follow as a guide. Image 2 shows the progress I have made on the credits. I am not very pleased with the amount of work I have produced today as it doesn’t look like very much, however it took quite a while to arrange the text to look similar to the professional product’s text. • To edit the text to look like the text from Image 1 I used the tools that are shown in Image 3. I first changed the height of the text, to get the stretched look. I then edited the width of the text to allow it to fit appropriately and look similar to the professional product. I changed the size of certain words in the credit to match Image 1, which wasn’t difficult, however the words such as ā€˜by’ and ā€˜producer’ were difficult to include because they were placed underneath the smaller sized text (as shown in a close up on Image 4). To overcome this problem I used a separate text layer and moved and adjusted the words to fit accordingly and I believe this has worked out well, with the appearance looking very professional. • Overall I am pleased with the content I have creative, however the amount of conduct I have created is disappointing, as I have only created a basic outline and the text for my credit section. This means I will be working on this section of my product again tomorrow. On the other hand I would rather my product be more detailed and look more professional and take a longer time to create than to create something that looks very amateur because not enough time was spent on it. • I still haven’t fully completed my planning section because I believe that I can include more detail, however I don’t think this will affect my production massively, because I have completed the main and important sections of my planning. I will be working on my planning, adding more detail, at home in my own time, therefore no time will be taken out of my production time, meaning it likely won’t cause disruption of my product.
  • 15.
  • 16.
Day 8 • Monday •Today was the first day of the week and over the weekend I noticed many film covers had their taglines in full capital letters, however I didn’t think that this would look good on my product, however I hadn’t tried it, so I did today. Images 1,2 and 3 show the different appearances of the tagline I have at the top of my film cover. In my opinion my original text layout (Image 1) looks best, however this isn’t the typical look for a professional product, therefore this might make my product look less professional, which is why I am still debating which layout to use. This means that this section of my product is still unfinished, which I am not very pleased about, considering the time I have had so far. • After this, I decided to improve the side of the cover before carrying on with my credit section. As you can see in Image 4 I changed the layout slighting, by positioning my company logo at the top (after looking at more professional film covers) and I also added the DVD logo and the 18 rating to make it look more professional. I added the barcode later on after deciding it wasn’t going to fit on my back cover, however I still think the appearance is aesthetically pleasing and I am happy with the look of it. • Image 5 shows the finished section of the credits. This took a lot of time to create, however I am pleased with it because there is a lot of detail shown and although it is not a main aspect of my product, it still shows the effort I have put in and makes my product look a lot more professional. The hardest task for me when creating the credit section was the layout of the boxes and logos. I used a professional product’s credit section as inspiration and their box’s were not equal to each other as the amount of information for each box varied, therefore mine had to as well, making it difficult to fit all the box’s on equally, in-line with the other features in the credits (such as the logos etc.). • Moving onto Image 6, I have not finished my back cover yet, however I believe I have made a lot of progress with it today. For the images I used ā€˜Image Adjustments’ to edit the colours of them, using ā€˜Desaturation’ and ā€˜Hue and Saturation’ with ā€˜Colourize’ (Image 7). Using these tools/effects I changed the colour to a low saturated red, to give the back a bit of a red/black colour scheme. I then added the location image in a green colour to give the overall look a bit of a colour splash so everything wasn’t too ordinary. The original photo of this location was square with sharp edges, so to give it the faded look it has I used the ā€˜Elliptical Marquee tool’ and selected a circular area of the image, then used ā€˜Feather’, the ā€˜Modify’ effect to make a faded selection (Image 8), which I am happy about. • Overall Image 9 is what I have finished with for today and as I mentioned in the last two production days I wasn’t very happy with the amount of work I had produced, I believe today I have produced much more, which is a big improvement. I was able to finish the credit section and make a good start on the back cover’s imagery and text. I am still yet to complete it however, because it does not look professional enough for me, as I need to fill the empty spacing on the back cover which I could either do with a faded border and blood dripping possibly, but I have not yet decided exactly how I will do this. I will work on this on my next production day and I believe I can finish this product by the end of the week, which would be very helpful considering I am finishing for Easter after this week.
  • 17.
  • 18.
Day 9 • Wednesday •Today I was sharpening up my back cover and making it look for professional. There was too much empty space on the back cover and the blurb looked too ā€˜placed on’ and didn’t look like it was apart of the cover, so I decided this was the first place to start today. Using the shift key on all the image layers, I enlarged all the images on the back cover together, to fill more of the empty space. I then enlarged the top and bottom model separately to make them look a similar size to the middle model, which I think has made the group of images look very connected. I then enlarged the image of the location and the image of the model on the far right together, as these also looked very ā€˜out of place’ now next to the other images. • After changing the sizes of and slight positioning of them, I believe this has improved my back cover greatly, and I am pleased with it and it has left me a good amount of space to fit my blurb into efficiently. Image 1 shows how the text looks with the editing I made to it, which was using the ā€˜Pen tool’ (Image 2) to create a selection path of my choice, around the images and then using the ā€˜Text tool’ I just added the my blurb into this selection path. This now links the images to the text a lot more, instead of block images and text placed on the cover. i am not very happy with the actual text however, as I think it still needs improving. I am happy with the layout of it, although the colours and/or sizing may need to change. I also want to add dripping blood or something similar to this, coming off the text area, so it doesn’t stand out as much as it does because I want the images to tell the story and stand out more than the blurb does (which would make it look a lot more professional). • Finally after editing the imagery and text size and positioning, it has left an open space between them and the credits, which looks unfinished. To fill this I am thinking of including a tagline for example, a small amount of text to intrigue the viewer after reading the story. Although, I am struggling to think of the text to include here at the moment, but I will be working on this tomorrow, and believe I will be able to finish my whole film cover (front, side and back) tomorrow as I don’t have a huge amount to complete. This pleases me as I can then move onto a new product on my next production week, therefore I will have more time to work on them. • Image 3 compared to Image 4 shows the progress I have made on my back cover today, which I am fairly happy about, although I could have completed more work if I put more effort in or worked harder, as this would have allowed more time for my to work. • Overall I believe I am slightly behind my production schedule, as we have around 3-4 weeks left of production on this project and I haven’t yet finished my first product. On the other hand I have included a lot more detail in this product than I anticipated and planned for, which is good because it is my main product and the first product people will see when I present my work.
  • 19.
  • 20.
Day 10 • Thursday •Today I believe I have finished my film cover until I receive feedback from others to see what my target audience would think about my product and see which aspects I could improve. • Firstly I changed the texture of the character’s face, as before it looked unnatural and very misplaced. Image 1 shows what it looked like before and Image 2 shows what I changed it to. I used many different tools to get the final image of the face texture. Firstly I changed the blending mode to ā€˜Overlay’ to make it look part of the character’s image. I used the ā€˜Warp tool’ to make it the rough shape of the face. Then using the ā€˜Smudge tool’ I spread the image to all the spaces the warp couldn’t reach, so there wasn’t any empty spaces on his face. Next I used the ā€˜Eraser tool’ on low opacity around the edges of the image to make it blend in with his face and make it look more realistic, which I think it does. Finally I used different ā€˜Image Adjustments’ to make it darker, less contrasting and less exposed. After completing this I am very happy with how it looks now, compared to the appearance of it before. In my opinion it looks a lot more realistic and effective. • Image 3 is the conclusion I have come to with the controversy of using a capital ā€˜F’ or a lower case ā€˜f’ in the tagline at the top of the cover. Although I liked the appearance of the lower case ā€˜f’ more, I couldn’t find an existing product that displays their text in this way, therefore my product wouldn’t look as professional and I wouldn’t be able to justify my choice with an existing product. I also didn’t like the way the capital ā€˜F’ looked very emphasised and stand-out. So to overcome this I converted the text layer into a rasterized image layer and using the ā€˜Eraser tool’ I removed parts of the dripping features on the ā€˜F’, which made it look smaller, and more like the lowercase ā€˜f’. This meant I was able to be grammatically correct and keep the similar appearance I wanted for the tagline. • I mentioned yesterday that I wanted the fill the empty space between the credits and the images on the back cover so I decided to fill it with another tagline ā€œdon’t watch it aloneā€, as shown in Image 4. I also used this tagline as another feature to follow the red colour scheme on the back, which as you can see I did. Because I made the text colour of this tagline red, I decided to change the ā€œAxe Of Kindnessā€ colour to white (in the blurb), however to keep it standing out I changed it to bold, capital letters, which I think looks very effective. • Overall, as I said, I believe I have finished my film cover for the time being, until I receive feedback. Image 5 shows the final product I have ended with and in my opinion I think it looks very professional and I am very pleased with what I have created. Although I think there may be certain aspect, that I like, that others will not like, therefore I would need to change it, to appeal to the target audience. After the holidays or during them, I will start to work on my advertising poster for this film, which will be my second product, however I don’t think that product will take as long as this product I have just finished.
  • 21.
  • 22.
Day 11 • Monday •Today I worked on my film logo that I will include on my merchandise and as a logo on its own. For the text (the film title) in the middle of the logo I duplicated the image from my film cover (Image 3), therefore they are exactly the same. Then for the axe silhouette behind it, I found an image from Google and created a workpath of the image’s outline using the ā€˜Pen tool’ and then coloured in the selected area inside the workpath in black using the ā€˜Paint bucket tool’. I then used various types of erasers around the edge of the axe, to give it a rigged and faded look, which it has. All of this you can see in Image 1. The difference I made in Image 2 was adding a grey colour behind the text because the outer glow that was originally on the text did not show up against the axe image for some reason, which I don’t know. This improved it because it made the text stand out against the black background, making it easier to read and giving it more emphasis against the axe image. • I am fairly happy with the logo I have created, however I believe that this is not finished and there are still ways in which I can improve it, although at the moment I am unaware of what these improvements could be. I will be using the mid-production peer feedback, in a few days, as an opportunity to receive advice for how I can improve my logo.

  • 24.
Day 12 • Wednesday •Today I used a YouTube tutorial to create an effective text effect for my film poster. This text effect included a dripping blood effect from the letters that appeared to have been smeared on a surface using blood. As you can tell from this description alone, the imagery suits my theme/style perfectly, as its as if the killer created this with the blood from his victims. The tutorial I followed was fairly easy to understand, as it was explained well and clear. The most important steps in the creation of this effect were the blending modes, which were very easy to work with, making the whole creation quite simple, even though it may look complex. I am very pleased with the outcome of the text effect I created, as it looks very realistic, as shown in Image 1. • After completing the text effect I then moved onto to creating the imagery (Image 4). Using the Fibonacci Spiral I planned and researched with/about I wanted to add the imagery above and next to the text. Using the blending mode ā€˜Overlay’ (Image 2) I made the image blend into the texture and colour of the background wall that the text was created on. I then used the ā€˜Eraser tool’ (Image 3) to erase the left side of the model’s face and as I got closer to the right side I lowered the opacity of the eraser so it faded away rather than a sharp line that shows exactly where it was cut. I then did the same for the image of the killer’s axe, using the same blending mode and erasing technique. • I am pleased with this creation, as it only took me one working day to complete, meaning I worked a lot faster/harder compared to the usual working day which I am happy about. I think that I have shown excellent Photoshop skills throughout this poster and think it looks very professional and will be very effective for my film, by enticing and satisfying the audience. As a whole (Image 5), I think it will work very well with my film cover.

Day 13 • Thursday •Today I worked on my logo improvements from the advice I received in my peer feedback. • I first added more of the image around the edge of the axe image, using the ā€˜Brush tool’. In my opinion (and the opinions of my peers), this has improved my logo greatly, as before it looked ā€˜unfinished’, as if it wasn’t fully filled in yet, therefore now it looks more complete. I still wanted to keep the faded look on the edge of axe, hence why I didn’t completely fill in the empty spaces. I then added blood dropping onto the bottom of the axe, as suggested. To create this I had to think outside the box because I couldn’t find actual images of blood dropping and couldn’t create my own imagery. So to overcome this I searched ā€˜paint dripping from a brush’, as the texture of paint is very similar with a thick liquid appearance. I had to change the colour from green to red using ā€˜Colour Adjustments’, to make it look like blood. I think that this now looks very realistic on its own however after today I think that the blood doesn’t look like it’s directly dripping from the axe, which may need to be improved at a later stage. • After improving my logo, I then applied the logo to different merchandise templates. I chose two different styles for the logo on the hoodies. The first style I tried was large and central (Images 2 & 4) and the second style was small and positioned on the side of the chest. I prefer the first design style I created as the logo is much more clear and you can see the detail more, which is more aesthetically pleasing. I used the blending mode ā€˜Multiply’, to make the logo look printed onto the hoodies, which was a very easy editing technique and it still looks very realistic in my opinion. I still want to create more merchandise products, however I will keep the same design styles as I think these work very well for my product. Some merchandise examples I want to create are hats, bags and mugs, which I will likely create in the improvements week. Overall, I am not the most pleased with the amount of work I have created today, as I have created four merchandise products, although on the other hand, I did work on my improvements that I was advised on by my peers.

Day 14 • Wednesday •Today I created two posters, which I am very happy about because I have created two products in a short space of time, which I normally do not. For the first poster I used a smoke image (Image 1) and added an image I took of my model (Image 2) and removed the background of the model image using the ā€˜Quick Selection tool’. I then changed the blending mode to ā€˜Multiply’, which allowed it to merge with the background smoke image as well as it does. I then used the ā€˜Eraser tool’ (Image 6) to better blend the model into the smoke, with it resulting in Image 3. I am pleased with how realistic this looks, as the model genuinely looks as if he was within the smoke when the image was taken. Image 4 shows the dripping blood I added to the axe, which gives it a more demonic theme/style. To achieve this appearance I added a paint dripping image I found on Google (as I did for my logo) and changed the colour from blue to red, using ā€˜Colour Adjustments’ and adding shadowing to make it look less like paint and more like thick, dark coloured blood. Finally I added a tagline ā€œsilence is keyā€, which is very spooky and mysterious, enticing the viewer, wanting to find out who this tagline applies to in the film and why the ā€˜silence is key’. I also added the film title and production logo to link the poster to my film cover, which these features do perfectly. • I then created my third poster for my film cover, which was created in a very short time. Although I spent very little time creating it, I still think that this poster looks quite professional. I am disappointed because I did not screenshot my progress throughout the creation of this poster because I forgot to do so, however I did not go through that many steps to reach completion. The main steps I took were using the ā€˜Eraser tool’ (Image 6) to remove half of the model’s face, using a low opacity for the erasing near the middle of the face to give it the faded style. I then used the ā€˜Brush tool’ (Image 7) to give the eyes a blacked shadowing, making him appear more scary and evil. I also used this tool on a low opacity for the model’s teeth because they appeared to be very white compared to the rest of the image (especially after the editing) so they stood out too much for my liking, whereas now they don’t stand out and the audience can see the slogan I added at the top more along with the detailed imagery (the eyes). • Overall I am satisfied with what I have created today as I have created two products in one day, which is very quick compared to my usual work rate, and the products still look professional and aesthetically pleasing in my opinion. • Now I have finished all of my production work for now, I will upload everything onto my website clearly, so my website will look aesthetically pleasing and it will be easy for the examiner and my other website viewers to see/view my work.
