Force is defined as an interaction that can change an object's motion, shape, or state of rest. The SI unit of force is the Newton (N). Forces can act through direct contact between objects or at a distance through fields. Force is a vector quantity that has both magnitude and direction. When multiple forces act on an object simultaneously, the net force determines the object's motion, as represented in a free-body diagram which analyzes only the forces affecting a single object.
